Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2012: REHEARSALS

My thoughts on Day 6

:ru: I love the rehearsal. I think I'm hungry for Udmurt pies. (I confess that I had no idea it was an oven)
:hu: Being one of my favorites, there should be no reason they can't qualify. Improved a lot from both the first rehearsal and the NF
:at: If it were up to me, Austria's going to the final. Somewhat kid friendly, but somewhat an enjoyable performance. I do love a little rap once in a while
:md: I've always loved the dancing, but I can't believe they took away the riding the horse part. No worries, it didn't take away the charm, and I love the dresses.
:ie: Jedward knows how to put on a performance. And the backings always help. And I love the fountain.
:rs: Improved from the 1st rehearsal, but still flat to me. A qualifier to most.
:mk: I think Kaliopi is getting her revenge from 16 years ago, and she rightfully deserves it. If this doesn't make Macedonia qualify, I don't know what will.
:nl: There's a reason why the Netherlands moved up on my list. Very charming indeed. They seriously need to qualify. It's been a long time.
:mt: This has to qualify, but as this is one of my favorites, I'm missing the spark. Still, a spot for Malta.
:by: What's up with Belarus that they have very unique microphone stands (remember last year)? It has grown on me, but I think it's already a bit too late to change my outlook.
:pt: There's a reason why this is my number 1. Love the backdrop, love the vocals, everything. Sure qualifier, but it's my winner, regardless of her actual result.
:ua: I haven't commented on the LED screens behind Gaitana. Similar to the United Kingdom last year, but like them, great use of it. She also have the voice of some of the divas here in the states

My thoughts on Bulgaria will be added after the video is out.

:bg: I actually don't think she needs dancers after all. The backdrop is doing all the dancing, but vocally, this is much better than the first rehearsal.

Vocally is the same, just sound is way better.
But there is big scandal with the organisers, because the haven't met the requirments of the bulgarian team at all.

Sofi Marinova, Love Unlimited did great. I hope she stays like this and not trying to dance. Instead she needs to shine with charisma through the TV-set into the heart of Europe. A touch of Romani temperament perhaps?

What are some of the requirements?

Kaliopi is surprisingly good on stage. I think that she will pass to the final and Macedonia will get many more votes than we were expecting.
It really seems that this year most of the countries have sent their best singers in a long time. I hope for a fierce battle on the scoreboard.

Russia:
I think this sounds smoother now. They are lovable and definitely one of the novelty acts this year. Vocally not that great, but nobody expects this song to be note-perfect.

Austria:
I am on major agreement with everyone that their second rehearsal was much better. I am glad that Austria is stepping up and now it looks like it could qualify. The presentation of the song is great. Looking forward to see how this will look on the 22nd.

Ireland:
Vocally much better and now it is sort of pleasant to listen to. Anyway, the song is still weak. I don't get their jumping around, great background though.

Serbia:
Well done Zeljko to another great performance. Not much to say here. It looks and sounds very good. :) It should win the semi-final!

Macedonia:
She stole my beating heart yet again! I'm sure she impressed everyone there at Baku with her interviews and with her singing abilities (not just of Crno i Belo, but folk Azeri songs, Spanish songs, you name it). Another fantastic rehearsal by Kaliopi. I think I love her first one more, but it is obvious that she is conserving her energy for the jury rehearsal and the actual night. I don't agree here with someone who said that she was off-tune on the first rehearsal.

Ukraine:
This grew on me so much and this performance looks great and refreshing. I like their outfits, I like the background, I like the dancing, I like Gaitana. What else should I like really?

Bulgaria:
Bring that leopard dress back!  I thought it was a great rehearsal again, but it still feels empty for this kind of song. I hope Bulgaria will make through.

What are some of the requirements?

They are about the graphics - totally different in all aspects - color, brightness and effects. But maybe is too late for big changes and the current grpahics will be slightly edited.

Zeljko was brilliant. Not sure about the background changes, but the performance was of the highest quality. The best today.

Ireland: Jedward have definitely a great stage presence. You may not like their sound, but they know how to entertain you. Funny outfits this time, but I prefer the outfits from the 1st rehearsal. The backdrop is refreshing: lots of water.

Belarus: Our Belarusian heroes are improving. The staging is awesome. Good combination of colours: black outfits + yellow backdrop. I simply adore this performance. They know how to perform.

Portugal: Filipa is a phenomenal talent and I admire her. But for me the most interesting thing in this performance is the backdrop. I can't stop staring at it. It's massive! The song sounds good live and her vocals are on point. I just wish the backing vocals were stronger. Overrall, the performance is rather positive.

Ukraine: They should not use the stage like that. It's dangerous because it seems they are trying to hide the song behind all that staging, colours, dancers, screens, etc. The 4 screens are totally dispensable when you have a big backdrop. Gaitana should have a bigger control over her voice. Not good!

Portugal:

Again, listening to Portugals entry triggered an "O goodness, not this song AGAIN, BURP" reflex in me.
The problem for me is that this song, while a very melodic ballad, just screams: "I'm a such a neat, good and typical Eurovision song", like the model student in your class who's always-successful-in-everything-including-sports, or the perfect and flawless neighbour lady with the perfectly and flawlessly arranged flowers in her front yard. Yawn. It doesn't matter what they'll wear, what backdrop they'll use, what choreography they'll implement, just yawn.

Macedonia was so wonderful. I don't know, it has a certain je ne sais quoi to it. The way she begins the song is just wonderful, and talk about stage presence! We deffo know that this lady has had tons of experience being on stage. Her personality just shines through. Ughhh, I very much love everything about her performance, nothing but praises from me! Splendid!

As for today the stand outs for me were Macedonia (again. Seriously this woman is amazing) and Moldova. Choreography for that is genius. I think both will qualify with ease now.

Yes. Kaliopi fills the stage with her personality. It was something that didn't come out in the music video, but it's pretty clear in the rehearsal.
