I'm happy that Russia, Iceland, Moldova, Belgium and Greece qualified.

I would have wanted Poland, Finland and Estonia to qualify. Especially POLAND. I loved both the song and the performance.

I don't get the Belarus-butterfly-thing at all. And what is Robert Wells the Swedish pianist doing in that act? Strange indeed.

Albania was a bit overrated imo.

Btw, I liked how they didn't show our map

So, it's not only me that thought we didn't see it. Also, when it was time to present the prequalifiers, they messed up the Norwegian entry (didn't show the country, song title, etc. in time).

haha and when Norway was presented the Romanian commentator said it was the guy from UK ,and when UK was next after Norway he said "my mistake ,before UK it was the guy from Germany"

The best qualifiers would be:
Portugal
Albania
Iceland
Belgium
Moldova
Belarus
Finland instead of B&H
Malta instead of Russia
Latvia instead of Serbia
Slovakia instead of Greece

Yeah, I saw that

But they didn't show the map with purpose, probably because they decided to show it without Kosovo, and then someone from our delegation stood up, so they removed the map totally, and what we saw yesterday before Milan's performance was some heavy improvisation

That is not how Serbia looks like on the map

as i said...watch out for russia, its a dark horse.

this semi was better than expected BUT the scenery, setting, stage, cameras etc. is really boring, lame and it doesn't lift the songs. except a few ones. im very dissapointed with this part.
and i am sorry for estonia, he deserved the final imo. more than moldova and portugal at least.

So this year's presentation was a bit bland, though I loved it when one of hosts put a wig that looked like Milan's hairstyle. I kinda prefer postcards as they were before, rather than what they had this year.

I was surprised to see Portugal, Belarus and Russia qualifying, but then I remembered that there are juries this year. Part when Russian performer takes out picture and sings to it was right about worst thing that ever happened on during Eurovision performance, followed by Belarus's butterfly thing. That was just plain out weird. Perhaps if guys had butterfly wings too it would at least be funny.

Slovakia not qualifying was a bit weird, but you could see that she was very nervous in both her singing and performance. She was literally shaking. Too bad for a good song like that one. Also Mecedonia. They were quite good and should have qualified.

Albania kicked ass. I never paid much attention to that song until now. I loved Juliana's hair! It's the best thing ever. I'm also very glad that B&H and Belgium qualified.

It was terribly boring, I almost fell asleep
People around me were like WTF, how can you watch this  and I was consoling them and myself by saying: "it will be better on Thursday" so it better be
Only Belgium, Serbia and Albania were worth watching.

i was watching it with non-hardcore eurovision fans (who despite this tend to vote a lot) and their favourites were iceland, russia and belgium.

Those cheering people film snippets from the various countries were a total waste of time. Tiny on at least my TV.

As for the acts, I'm having a hard time coming to terms with two favourites of mine, Finland and Estonia, not qualifying. Both perhaps too good musical taste for the unwashed masses.

Belarus qualifying? That was a real shocker. Most of us agree that it's cheesy rubbish.

For once the qualifiers didn't surprise or seriously irk. I mean, Serbia qualifying was a giant "Why?" for me. I can understand why they qualified, I just didn't like it and would rather they hadn't. Russia qualifying was a big "Really? Europe got it?".

The only country I'll miss in the final is Estonia. They deserved to make it, but I guess the entry was just too quirky for Europe.

Poor Aisha. They kept showing her (every time they went to the Green Room, they kept showing the same 4 countries for some inane reason) and she kept looking hopeful and sometimes close to tears. I'm sure she was very sad once Iceland had gotten the 10th ticket. I'm sure her reaction would've been the same as Tom Dice's: General surprise, relief and happiness at having qualified. She needs to work on her vocals (she's still young) and try again in a few years.

Right. I'm pretty happy with the first semi final, the presenters did a good job, and I liked the humorous elements too, especially the one with the cheering people. I almost laughed off the chair. :p

And then the songs (which is what this is about really). On a positive note, there were 5 songs I really liked ( -md , -gr , -is , -al and -fi - in that order), and as you can see, my top 4 qualified to the final. Too bad about Finland tho, but 4 out of 5 is still pretty good. On a negative note, there were 2 songs that I really didn't want to see go to the final ( -ru and -rs ), and both of them did. Disappointing. But overall, very happy. :D

lol. That makes the Estonian commentator's mistake when he "forgot" Sunstroke Project and just said that Moldova is represented by Olia Tira look like a tiny mishap.

The only songs that didn't get through that I liked were Slovakia and maybe FYR Macedonia and Malta. Quite typical results in my opinion.

That's because the entries were pretty bland. Most of them weren't actually bad, just really, really bland.

Best indication the juries work their charm is the qualification of Belgium to my opinion. I'm pretty ok with the results of the first semi... though I wonder how on earth Moldova, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Russia could have qualified to be honest.

My top-10 last night (purely based on the performance at the time):

1. -is Iceland :)
2. -by Belarus :)
3. -be Belgium :)
4. -gr Greece :)
5. -rs Serbia :)
6. -fi Finland :(
7. -al Albania :)
8. -sk Slovakia :(
9. -mt Malta :(
10. -pt Portugal :)

With a score of 7/10 (at random)... I'm pretty pleased, though I would have rather seen Finland, Slovakia and Malta in the finals as well.

Next up... Niamh :?
