Maybe I just felt it was… but you could be right, in some cases it’s just a few sentences in their own language. Let’s see what we have.

Countries singing completely (or almost) in their own language:

:md:
:sl:
:hr:
:fi:
:al:
:it:
:fr:
:es:
:ro:
:rs: (50:50)

I think that’s a pretty good record so far! Did we ever have that many? And there are even more to come, probably :pt:.

Countries with a little part in their own languages:
:lv:
:il:
(:lt: two words)

I think this is an ok-ish year in terms of quality, perhaps in previous years we would of all raved at it, but its definitely not like we have heard these kinds of songs before, perhaps its expectations?

I recon its going to be an interesting year, I dont think even if Loreen wins melfest tomorrow its a guarantee she wins Eurovision as a whole, could we see a surprise winner? possibly.

There isn't an obvious winner which excites me a bit.

I think this year more than ever the past years the winner is totally clear that’s why I‘m not excited at all to be honest. But since the overall quality is rather low I won’t be too disappointed. It would be much worse if I had a huge favourite who I want to win so badly and it had to compete with Loreen so it didn’t stand a chance.

I‘m rooting for some smaller countries to qualify and getting a decent result in the GF and I‘m rooting, finally ! , for my own country which is my favourite song this year, ironically. But since I knew from the start it’s not a contender to win I‘m hoping and rooting for the best possible outcome.

I agree with a lot of what you've said. Definitely think this is the strongest big 5 in a long time.

Perhaps given the quality of the past few years, we expect too much perhaps? but still I recon its a relatively ok-ish year.

Last year we had:

Lithuania, Slovenia, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Moldova, Iceland, Serbia, France (Breton), Italy which were totally in their national language.

Mixed languages:
Albania (lol, I didn't remember that it's wasn't 100% English), Croatia, Cyprus, Spain.

Last year 9 - this year 11 (if you already count Portugal in). I didn’t expect last year to have that many but this year it’s even more.

Yeah, it's funny how my feeling was different (maybe because Lithuania sending Lithuanian was so unexpected and Iceland becoming my 2022 favourite and the only one I still often listen to!).

We don't need a language rule, the acts will do it themselves!
That was a loooooong process. Remember the years when we had only a handful of songs other than in english (some of them rather being „english“).

Who the hell is Edgar also contains Italian lyrics.

Since unsuspecting times I've argued the necessity to have more and as much as possible songs in native languages.
We all are looking for diversity and singing in the proper language is just the first step to make a song diverse.
To my opinion listening LOTL singing in deutsch would have been more impactful than in English.
But this question is as complicated as " who was born first the egg or the hen? "
Just to remind that the song which probably is going to win will be in English, coming from a country that does not sing in the proper language by decades and that has invented and exported taylored ESC songs in English throughout Europe.
