Seriously, guys! Help me out! I haven´t felt that way for a long time regarding Eurovision!

Everyone is telling how "bad this Supersaturday turned out to be" - there are tons of comments on FB saying that all song suck.. and here I am.. living my best life... thinking that every country made the right choice (I don´t count :ro: because I didn´t like any song - at least, a super entertaining and trashy performance won).

Seriously, I´m living! Thriving! Just can´t get enough of this,.. now watch one of my four :12: win in :it: xD

Is that a state of euphoria for an ESC fan? :D

Should we call an ambulance?

Maybe.... or is that a state of happiness?
I´m actually sitting here.. watching Sanremo and just keep on smiling because - dunno - I think that Eurovision 2023 will be quite entertaining? :D

2008 was the best ESC (together with 2009) in the 00´s.

I don´t get these voices getting louder, though.. you do realise that we had fun/joke entries when the juries were around as well, right? - Let 3 just won and everyone is wishing the juries to be back..

I was half asleep yesterday when I wrote it so there was a bit of sarcasm in it, partly it was a joke either… but the truth is, now that people are aware there are no juries in the semis they may be more daring. And they ARE!

And looking at what we have so far there are no real ballads so far (attempt of a ballad in Estonia and Italy maybe). Last year nearly all songs at this points were ballads.
So, the absence of juries certainly HAS an influence.

There was no judgement in my statement either. Yes, 2008 is one of my least favourite Eurovisions ever. But that’s because I simply don’t like the songs, no matter if fun or not. I‘d also like to have some fun entries in Eurovision. I just don’t like JOKE entries (I don’t see Croatia as a joke entry by the way).

It’s just unexpected that many countries go back to the roots this year without trying to send some contemporary competitive songs. As if they don’t care this year. And this in a year where people from all over the world can vote, it just surprises me - you‘d think they‘d put some extra effort in there to represent their country in the best way with a song honoring the culture of the country etc.

Anyway, let’s see what there is to come! There are some pretty good songs right now anyway.

2008 being a bad year is more symbolic for the 2000s decade that was just tragic and the reason why people have a negative view of Eurovision. Sure, we got bops from Ani Lorak, Charlotte Perelli, Jelena, Sirusho and Queen Kalomira. But the other songs? There is a reason why we have juries and while yeah, they push generic songs and ballads a bit too much overall their impact was positive. The EBU needs to change something about the juries and the voting in general, modernize it, learn from Sanremo, idk.

2021 is imo the golden year of Eurovision and with Maneskin Eurovision even got a worldact. Like that entire Top 10 ist just amazing. That year was filled with quality songs and performances and it was the first time that I saw people talking positive about Eurovision. I fear with the absence of the juries we're going back. Eurovision should be a platform for European artists who already struggle because of the US market and not a circus show imo. Don't get me wrong, there is a place for the Verka Serduchkas and I love these type of bops but the 2000s decade was just too much and we're again regressing in quality. 2022 was already kinda meh for me but this year has been super weak so far.

This year for me personally it is in the middle of road. Not too bad, but not too good either. Today I will listen to the songs we have so far and rank them new (if necessary). But hey I think we had worser years, I think. It is still fun to watch the NFs!

Well, we have some songs to come so I hope there‘ll be one or two really good songs. Last year I was very disappointed at this point too. I believed it was such a weak year but in the end there were more awesome songs than I expected at the beginning. So there is still hope. Nothing can beat 2020 (RIP ) and especially 2021 (undoubtedly one of the best if not THE best ESC ever) though.

Funnily, if my country selects Patty or LOTL this will be the first time since the '80s I have a German song in my top 3, if not as a winner. So unreal to say that about Germany. I‘m so used to the crappy songs we usually send.

Same. I am confident, however, that a number of the internal selections will bring us a great upturn in quality soon - it did last year, IMO :)
(And yeah... 2021 was great!)

You do realise that also the juries in the national final voted for the entries which got selected yesterday?

Abolishing the juries in Eurovision´s semi finals hasn´t had an effect on the quality of the already decided entries.
I don´t get all these reactions (on this forum or on FB). The juries also voted for Alessandra (), Let 3 (:hr:) heavily. Alika :ee: also won the jury vote. Blanca won the :es: jury vote as well.

Would you have preferred "Up" by Matt Blxck in Malta? He won the "professional" jury vote.

So far, most jury winners also represent their countires at Eurovision 2023. Televoting didn´t turn much around... how can you guys draw the conclusion that the new rule is responsible for the alledgedly "drop in quality"?

Especially the winners from :ee: and :it: are jury pleasers - granted, Let 3 might flop with the juries in May but again, they also won the jury vote in :hr: with a significant lead.

First of all, this isn’t about what I prefer.
My taste has nothing to do with the observations I made. Everyone is entitled to think differently of course. I‘m just stating my opinion.

Of course there were juries in the NFs. But NF juries vote differently from those in Eurovision. And apart from that: if a NF jury knows there will be no juries in the Semis why should they vote for a jury friendly song in their NF? Yes, Estonia is somewhat of a jury pleaser but strangely it’s the only one we have so far. Italy not so much I would say. It’s a slow to middle paced song, a typical Italian song, they will always send these songs in a while and have always been, no matter jury or not, they know people will love this. So no surprise.

Anyway, like I said, it was partly a joke! Like: oh, look, juries gone, now we‘re going full 2008 with crazy songs or just dated songs who feel like 2008. It’s also a joke because there WAS a jury in 2008 (who determined the 10th finalist).
But truth is also: we have a lot less slow songs than last year at this point. A lot!

You (and some fans) really ascribe too much professionalism to the juries in NF´s.

They have never voted for "jury-friendly songs... thinking what could perform with the juries´ at Eurovision".
We´ve had random journalists, bosses and producers from broadcasters, former Eurovision participants and Deban or Will from wiwibloggs across the NF´s - some head of delegations (OGAE people)... they have always simply voted for their favourite songs... it´s not like they are ranking songs based on criteria.

Some jury members were songwriters from the US - pretty sure they don´t even care or know about the new rule changes at Eurovision and juries at Dora/Sanremo... I don´t think that they really think of Eurovision when they give their points (otherwise, Dora juries wouldn´t be self-sabotaging themselves since 2020).

You might have said it as a joke (totally understandable, you´re right to do so) but many fans have already lamented that Eurovision 2023 is going to the be worst one because of no juries in the semi and the "Supersaturday" is used as some sort of proof....

It´s true that we haven´t got many ballads yet but what´s the point? - 2021 was basically one up-tempo song after another (mostly female-led pop songs) - sometimes it´s just "arbitrary"...

I think it´s more interesting to wait for the internally selected songs because there´s a smaller number of jurors who might have a larger impact on the outcome - and they might want to select a "televoting/joke entry" as their entry to appeal to the televoters so that they can finally qualify again (that´s probably why we´re getting that "Poe" song from Austria xD) but I strongly disagree with the assumption that televoters and NF juries voted for non-ballads on purpose because of the new ESC rule.
