This thread is for any general Eurovision 2023 discussion not limited to or specifically about any country's national selections or song choices.
ESC Tom is so boring. He has no original content, he is just analyzing and opinionating on the obvious things for clicks. If I would get 0.003 for click or quote on this forum I could already afford a tray of gas station Champaign. But I guess YouTube and TikTak is the way to go these days. Actually it’s not dumb to monetize on your interactions in the interwebs, since every Cookie on your computer is doing the same thing for their hustlers.

The only ESC channel I enjoy watching and believe them is MyrtleP's channel of 4 Americans reacting.
Because:
1. They really react and say their impressions without making any PREPOSTEROUS PREDICTIONS that all other reaction channels percieve as they holy duty
2. They don't try to influence your opinion on something, they simply naturally react
3. They can explain music in simple manner for everyone to understand
4. Their knowledge of music and personal tastes are various and they are capable of accepting all forms and types of entries, regardless of style, genre, composition. They listen without prejudice and eventhough they are ESC fans for decades, they don't have the mentality of the bubble
5. They don't act vile against obviously bad entries
If Eurovision wants to better its reputation to attract established artists and keep/up these viewing figures, they need to keep prestige in mind. A small stage like this makes the contest look insignificant, especially compared to other international productions and events. If I show this to people, to get them excited for eurovision, they wouldn't get the vibe that it's something big that they should watch. So why do fans demand a big(ger) stage?
A bigger stage with the same maximum of 6 people on stage would make it look emptier and I know that people will argue that EBU should raise the number of people on stage or that the delegations should spend more money on probs but raising the cost of competing in Eurovision will make the contest worse as more contries will withdraw in the future like Bulgaria did recently. If Eurovision wants to better its reputation to attract established artists and keep/up these viewing figures, they need to keep prestige in mind. This stage is not giving me the fantasy and grandeur I'm looking for when I want to see "the biggest music competition in the world".
There's even barely space for an audience... It will look like "The Masked Singer" without the masks and mostly worse songs.
I quite like ESC Tom too, I find his analysis well explained and fair. He's the only ESC blogger I watch.I actually like him a lot, even though he often states the obvious. At least he's not annoying.
He and Alesia Michelle are actually the only esc YouTubers I listen to (along wiwibloggs from time to time)

I can't stand Wiwibloggs.
Ah, yes, Sweden, the famous Big 5 country (sorry, I know you didn’t mean it that way, but I couldn’t resist)Has anyone any thoughts on where each of the Big 5 (excl UK) might be placed in the running order, if they draw 1st or 2nd half?
I can't see Sweden being given a bad slot as they're favourites to win...if they draw 1st half they'll be put on around 12th, surely.?

Kinda sad 2012's stage is still the one to beat
But atleast it's not Denmark's nightmare
That sounds realistic.Ah, yes, Sweden, the famous Big 5 country (sorry, I know you didn’t mean it that way, but I couldn’t resist)
Yes, Sweden will for sure get a quite good running order unless she (relatively speaking) tanks against all odds. I would expect her to either be put right before or after one of the short breaks or very much close to the end of her half.
For the other Big 5 countries I actually think it‘s less straight-forward. If Germany draws first half, I wouldn’t really be surprised if they either put them as the show opener or somewhere right in the middle to wake up the audience. In the second half kind of the same. Italy is a full-on wildcard, but somehow I feel a 4th spot if they draw first, and 16th if they draw second half. No clue where this feeling might come from. If Spain gets first half, around tenth is the most likely spot to me, and in the second half I think it might be a bit more to the front, like 14th/15th. France could be an opener, just like Germany, maybe even more fitting as that would wrap up the show nicely (starting with Evidemment and ending with IWAS feels very artistically pleasant to me) or she could end the first half, and if she drew second half, I could Imagine her best in like 22nd spot for some reason.
I like that about Tom's channel too, his focus on data (I work in a very data heavy job so this stuff appeals to me). I do think he's good at looking beyond the data too (I mean he does point out that past performance data doesn't necessarily predict future performance)I enjoy MyrtleP's channel as well, they give a friendly family vibe and are kind to all entries. I also respect them as they have a serious background in music. I just mostly don't share their taste, and yeah, the american mindset (of sorts) shows quite often.
ESC Tom is the best for me (with ESC united's channel a very close second), Tom is really good at showing and interpreting data. There's more to his analysis than just the usual "gut feeling + personal preference + bubble's influence", which I appreciate a lot.
I have never agreed more about anything with anyone, I thinkKinda sad 2012's stage is still the one to beat
