Juries screwed :fi: over

ABOLISH
THE
JURY
NOW
I don't even know what to say. This is not OK.

Before I say anything else I'll have you know Loreen wasn't even in my top 5 so I say this because I'm sick of hearing it every year, not cause I am some sort of fanboy.

Anyway, I wish people could stop this. Trying to claim that she's not worthy or this being "not ok" is cringe af, people act like whiny kids. Not having your favorite win or getting annoyed by Sweden frequently being favored by the jury does not make her unworthy. Many try to frame it as a jury problem but I bet you half of the people complaining wouldn't be mad if the roles were reversed and Finland won with jury votes.

Finland was 4th with the juries. How can you claim they got "screwed over by juries"? Loreen was 2nd with the public vote and yet it's somehow unworthy? Give me a break. I would understand your frustration if Loreen was very unpopular with the public but won the jury vote, but this was absolutely not the case. At the end of the day, the jury system is what Eurovision has always used and it's part of the core concept. The victory is deserved cause Loreen did well in both parts of the voting, saying it's not is just nonsense.

That being said, I do think 50% of the votes belonging to the jury is too much and I wish they would change it to 1/3 instead. And I actually did prefer Cha Cha Cha over Tattoo, but my main favorites were Austria and Australia!

PS. Nothing personal, but it gets old. Much love :)

The fact that jury votes are presented first and for a much longer period of time says it all. Jury votes are presented as more important and televoting as something completely secondary. The whole voting system should be changed. I am for 100% televoting.

Its designed to give the EBU time to count the televotes and still allow the announcement of votes by each country by the national spokespeople - otherwise the show would last even longer!

Four hours and 5 minutes is already too long.

We will see when the full results come out but Serbia's awful televote has supported my suspicions that Serbia was the 10th qualifier in semi 1
Serbias televote is shocking tbh. Less than 20 points if I remember correctly with Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and Switzerland as reliable voters.

Another well deserved top 10 for Estonia!

Really deserved, Yes. After Alika's performance I was worried for our Marco, because Alika sounded great all week long. Amazing they both did so well despite being one after the other in the running order...

I was a huge Venom fan in Eesti Laul, but now I'm glad Alika won because she deserved and I think today she showed us why.

I'm hoping this year will be a one-off (or at least the only pain-in-the-a$$ jury winner beats everyone else situation since 2015) but I, personally, don't think I'm ready to go down that road yet. The idea of Russia winning in 2016 is enough to stop me arguing for 100% televote. It'd be nice if they stopped hero-worshiping basic Swedish pop, though.

by the way wasn't there a surprise guest rumoured? People talked about Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue and other names but nobody of that sort seemed to show up unless you count the introductory sequence

I mean Rita Ora was there at the semifinal and I guess that's a surprise

The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 Grand Final is now over. Congratulations to Sweden for winning with 583 points. Congratulations Loreen, you're only the second Eurovision artist to win the Eurovision Song Contest twice. Several other Eurovision winners have returned to represent their country again, and failed to win again. In addition, you have earned Sweden its 7th Eurovision victory, putting you in a tie with Ireland for most Eurovision Song Contest wins (7). I'm proud of you. Sweden: Winners 1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015, 2023. 8 years' gap between wins.

Well done also to Finland for getting over 300 public vote points (presumably winning the public vote - I've still not been able to find an official full breakdown of the results online yet) and finishing second outright with 526 points.

Commiserations to the UK's Mae Muller for finishing 25th with just 24 points. It's sad to go from 2nd in 2022 to 2nd from last in 2023, but that said, France went from 2nd in 2021 to 2nd from last in 2022. Effectively the UK has done a France 2022 this year.

Commiserations to Germany for finishing outright last again this year, but at least you got more points this year (18 altogether).

Well done to all 26 finalists tonight, no matter where on the scoreboard they placed. Don't forget, 20 of tonight's finalists already did well just to get past the applicable semi-final in the week. Remember, 11 countries' songs failed to reach tonight's final.

For the record, I voted for: Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania, Cyprus, Italy.

The place doesn't matter. The gap in points is all. Sweden was massively favored by juries with hundreds of points more than the second place making televoting practically invalid.

Israel was awarded more for production of the song. Amateurs can't hear that really. The production of that song is literally INSANE. The best one this year probably together with Austria.

Okay, I can't lie about this one. Noa's vocals are CRISP and the sound mixing is great. Austria had weird stylistic choices but actually sounds well on the devices I've listened to.

One of the the other good ones for me are Netherlands, they love this balanced and ambient mixing which works like a charm.

I‘m mad a f about these results. These are the worst results since I started watching in 2011. I‘m especially wtf about :ee: and :it:.

Nothing more to say. Didn’t feel any joy today at the voting, it was the most boring voting ever. See you next year.

It's not about the juries placing Sweden first, that was already expected... it's the landslide leading what annoys me, not only because it made the full results section predictable and boring, or because the people's winner was sentenced to death from the beginning, BUT there were a bunch of other songs which deserved more appreciation by the juries under their standards.

EBU should seriously evaluate their scoring system, giving to the people real power. Abolishing juries in the semifinals has been a great start.
