Please post any and all discussions regarding the contest itself, host country and city, organisation, rumours and other topics not related to any specific country's selection process.

I hope that corona virus will affect ESC enough to see these countries withdraw from the contest: Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands (lol), North Macedonia, Spain, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

They could host Eurovision without the audience, but that does not make a whole lot of sense a big arena. There is also the risk of sickness in the delegations, also affecting the artists, affecting the jurors. Eurovision 2020 is in peril. I could see it getting cancelled or at least postponed. If they cancel it - and that may sound too harsh - it is not a big loss for music this year. I would of course be sorry for the hosting country and all the artists, especially Bulgaria, because this comes with a lot of emotional cost. If they postpone it for a few month, then maybe some artists are not ready for such a change in plans. I am not sure if that sounds fair, but maybe countries should have the right to nominate someone new for a postponed ESC in e.g. September.

Tumblr, mostly.
There are currently talks going on about delaying the contest. With most countries in Europe going on lockdown (and the crisis subsi ding in China), I see no reason why they would cancel ESC. But it may take place later in May or in June instead.

A delay certainly seems like the best option. The idea that we can somehow prevent the spread of covid seems like it's futile, but we need to make sure that the spread can be slowed so that our medical systems can cope. This does mean that postponement to later in May or June seems very optimistic and certainly unwise. Given that the growth curve of such a viral outbreak is exponential any mistake means risking thousands of lives two months down the road. It is a risk you just shouldn't take when you are still in the middle of the outbreak. I think postponement till late autumn would be a better choice.

@Uto

I bought plane ticket to Amsterdam on Dutch company Transavia..it is not with possibility to change the dates.. :( Well... okay.. xcry
Sucks, but please try to see things in perspective. With the current growth rate of the outbreak we are looking at systemic failure of our healthcare system at the end of the month which would mean soaring death rates and the worst catastrophe in the Netherlands since WWII. As long as Transavia can survive this mess you're likely to get a refund or a date change for free anyway. You paid for product and they're not delivering.

I think we should get used to more announcements like that and of course an ESC with no audience is also now becoming more and more a realm of possibilities - lets be positive that it will happen anyway and think its not the first time it would be like that and give us London 1963 tears :love:

I'm not bothered by the lack of pre-parties anyway. They did nothing for real promo and are only there to appease the fans.

I think they also help (some of) the artists get used to performing their song and also enjoy the whole Eurovision experience. Right now, of course, it's obvious that these events are going to be cancelled. However, I think that unlike the actual Eurovision shows, pre-parties could very well be postponed. It's less logistically and financially difficult to organize the events at a later date and surely enough artists would be interested, even if they were to be from previous years...

I know how you feel, but let it be healed by the knowledge that we're saving thousands, possibly millions of lives by quarantining ourselves all over Europe. Eurovision is about us all coming together, being one and standing strong. For once, *not* doing Eurovision is the embodiment of these principles.

Wish you guys can recover as soon as possible, I hope this pandemic will be over soon. Here in Indonesia it has started quite rapidly and universities started to lock down their students to minimize virus distribution and will commence online class programs, including mine.

As for the "not" doing Eurovision, I'm still in believe of a delay/postponement. The health measure are an important part to be considered, but beneficially, any cancellations can destroy parts of its reputation in the eyes of several delegations. Adding to that, this is EBU's flagship program, so I'm sure it'll get more priority to be held, rather than to hold the other programs.

A delay is honestly the best option, followed by a hosting of the contest without an audience. The worst option would be to let each individual country "host" their own recording of their national songs, it's not fair at all and there's no way to guarantee fairness, plus the production quality would be terrible. Delay it til June or July.
