Where did the idea come from, that Russia wouldn't wanna participate next year? Don't mistake Ultra-Orthodox and far right voices from National Bolsheviks and Ultra-Nationalists for the Russian public. Let's not forget also Russian voters and jurors supported Conchita Wurst, especially people at home.

And keep in mind that Russia's laws are not anti-gay per se, they just want to keep what they believe is promotion and proganda for a gay lifestyle away from the children and the youth. Well, Europe was worse 20 years ago than Russia now and the countries of this beautiful continent are all driving in the same direction, but with different speed. It's fine and let it go!

Russia stays in Eurovision, y'all! Best news ever! xcheer

The idea stems from the fact that the media isn't independent and therefor if Kremlin would decide that ESC would be something "bad", they would withdraw. It's not the people that chose whether they stay or not (take Turkey as an example).

Europe worse 20 years ago than Russia today? Not sure what parts of Europe you're talking about.

Still though I'm glad they're staying, but I hope they will finally send something worthy again.

So according to the article, we will have 2 new countries competing but we will have BIG 4 xthink

No, just Scotland as a debut. The Big 4 part is merely speculation on my part as I don't know how much money Scotland contributes to the overall UK fund.

But if Scotland makes debut and :uk: leave BIG 5 they will both compete in semis

Yes but again the UK leaving the Big 5 is just speculation that probably wouldn't happen. It wouldn't be two new countries as the UK has taken part for years, it'd just be Scotland breaking away and entering the semis. Kinda like what'd happen if the Kosovo/Serbia situation sorted itself out I imagine.

Agree with that. The only songs from Russia I like on the last few years are 2007 and 2009!

The only change I'd support is if they change the blue in our flag to the Welsh green. It'd look nice

I don't like Green. But it would make a difference from all of that red white and blue a lot of countries have

I'd prefer to keep everything as it is, the name and the flag.
Anyway a bit off-topic

Would that not be the 2016 contest rather than next year? I was under the impression that a Yes victory in September means that both sides can start getting the ball rolling and everything sorted out for independence, that date for which is set for some time in 2016, rather than everyone in Scotland waking up the day after the referendum and being in a new country. Or is there a special dispensation for the Eurovision?

People started the discussion for some reason, Scotland can't enter until 2017 at the earliest

Well it appears that Scotland would only be able to have their broadcaster in 2017, which means no Eurovision til 2017 at the earliest, but probably even later I guess.
