Re: Eurovision 2010 - Rehearsals

I love serbia but the first time i saw the video like half of the people here i was like 'wtf who is the guy! what a stupid haircut' I didn't focus on the song and tought it was crap until i heard it again a couple of days after.

And i fear despite the quality of the song, europe will have the same reaction as the majority of us for their first & only listenning

Anyway this year is so 2005 all over again :D

We will have three great ballads in top 5 but at number 2 and 4 & 5 in my opinion and something like Greece or Germany on top and a surprising country who isn't a ballad i expect romania but i would love it to be France

Re: Eurovision 2010 - Rehearsals

Moldova was a vocal mess. I wouldn't be surprised if juries kicked them out of the final (that would be fair in my opinion) because of this.

Estonia....hmmm I liked it the first time, but I'm starting to hate it and even more after the rehearsal. I don't get why the singer is jumping and trying to look funny when he isn't + clothes are just terrible.

Finland was better and it could qualify. The rest.... Slovakia was good again, so nothing more to say about it. I didn't watch Russia, cause I don't see they stand a minimal chance to qualify whatever they do. Finally, Serbia was perfect, except the clothes which were imo horrible and the back vocalists (I don't get why they were added so randomly). And is it me or they are trying to make his look more girlish to get more attention?

Re: Eurovision 2010 - Rehearsals

My daily review

Moldova
It is apparent that they are vocally inconsistent and their harmonies are just....bad (they sang much better last time). One of the worst rehearsals yet. Everything just seemed cheap. In order to even have a chance ofqualifying they need to get their act together and sing like they mean it. There is like no chemistry onstage. Am I the only one not really liking what they do with the lights? Just a big mess if you ask me.

Russia
Peter had some vocal issues and flat notes, another disappointing rehearsal. Nothing really to point out here. Russia will have a difficult time to qualify so Peter really needs to make sure to be vocally on top. The stage is simple, some fog effect, I wonder if anything else is going to be added? Shame they didn't show the first 30 seconds of the song.

Slovakia
As I said before, the dancing just doesn't work for me. It's not really a fast pace song, it comes across as hectic and disorganized. Kristina had some minor vocal issues but it was decent. I like the colors and lighting, a big plus. So overall an acceptable rehearsals, i just need Krisitina to losen up a little, she seems kinda tight on stage.

Estonia
Solid performance. There is not a lot of going on onstage, no big effects just a little bit of choreography from the backround singers. The song is very different and pretty much the only "alternative" song this year. Nothing really to add here, it was good.

Finland.
Really, really good. Everything just seems to work well together, I'm quite impressed...the singing, the outfits, the choreography, the lighting. it all just seems to fall into place.

Serbia
It's so much fun. I like the choreography, Milan has good control over his voice considering he's been dancing and moving around the stage a lot. The backup singers are a little bit loud for my taste but this is just a cheerful song, good job serbia.

Latvia
Aisha has shown some major improvement with her singing abilities so thumbs up from me. But there is still something missing, even with the backing singer it seems to be too week and anticlimactic. I expected something more visually appealing from this song so I am slightly worried for Latvia.

Belgium
First of all let me say that I'm diggin' Tom's new look. There is not a whole lot I can add regarding his singing. That guy knows how to sing so I'm not really worried about that him at all. Tom is incredibly likeable so I am expecting this one to score big time in a few days. There is no need to change any special effects, leave it as it.

Bosnia & Herzegovina
Let's hope for some rock/metal fans out there watching ESC this year. While I'm not sure about the appeal for the average viewer this song comes across great live. Good vocals and the lighting and stage looks fantastic. Another good rehearsal, keep it up.

Poland
Am I the only one who doesn't get the "apple in your mouth" thing? What's up with that? I said it before and I'll say it again, I love the sound of Marcin's voice even though I'm not a big fan of the song. The song doesn't make a whole of sense, the lyrics don't make a whole lot of sense, the choreography doesn't make a whole lot of sense so maybe that will be a good thing afterall? Viewers may think it's 'artistic' or something like that.

Malta
Thea sings it very well so that helps, it's still just to blah and unremarkable unfortunately. The angel is still creeping me out. A little bit of firework won't change much I'm afraid.
The lighting is appropriate but does not add really anything.

Re: Eurovision 2010 - Rehearsals

Today's rehearsals:

Bosnia & Herzegovina (this song has been growing on me ever since the new version was released, and seeing a second excellent rehearsal again today (perfect vocals, great light show and simple but fitting staging), I really do hope they scrape through to the final)
Serbia (while I didn't like the choreography for this song during the first rehearsal, it all seems to come together this time around. Milan is so energetic he makes up for a mistake here and there from his dancers, and it's impressive his vocals hold up while dancing and jumping around. Should be a certain qualifier.)
Finland (not that different from the first rehearsal, but that was already very good, so Finland will likely qualify for the final. I'm even starting to like the song now. :D )
Belgium (its simplicity is its greatest strength and his voice sounds great. Don't mind his new outfit, though I would prefer a more casual look. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this will be our first appearance in the final since 2004)

Slovakia (still not a very convincing performance, the up-tempo dancing just doesn't seem to fit, certainly when Kristina hardly moves at all. the song is still nice, so this one will probably qualify on the strength of that)
Moldova (the vocals were weaker today, but I did like the overall look of the perfomance a bit more. Will probably qualify as well)
Poland (Marcin is proving to be one of the best singers this year, and while I still find the performance weird, it did seem to be more coherent than last time. Might qualify, or might just miss out)

Malta (same as before: Thea's voice is the best thing about this entry, the song however remains boring and the bird act might even scare off potential voters. Don't see this qualifying)
Russia (the live performance does nothing to support the slightly haunting quality of the song. While I hope they won't, I can imagine it does have an outside shot at qualifying)
Estonia (while I love the song, I just don't see this performance, with the singer jumping around like a mad man, giving this song any chance of qualifying for the final :( )
Latvia (this song could really have used a good gimmick or staging to make people notice it (the laundry act of the NF did that for me). Focusing all attention on Ashia's unstable vocals doesn't give it too much of a chance towards the final. Too bad really, because I still like the song)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_(symbolism)

especially "Thus, secular art as well made use of the apple as symbol of love and sexuality."

That they put it into their mouths must be just bringing your attention, as well as the cross sign and other meaningless gestures. It's all supposed to look cool and that's all.
What I got from the performance was that all 5 ladies want to get Marcin's heart but eventually they throw it away (by rolling the apples) and only one girl keeps it (the black-haired one) and she's the one who's supposed to love him truly. The ending is pretty much like one of the dancers is humiliated by other girls by her shirt being ripped off (out of jealousy) but it's the shy girl standing on the side who's the real winner. Still Marcin is like whatever towards the humiliated girl and continues moaning. Yeah, that's very far-fetched and way too complex for Eurovision but that's how I see it.
And yeah, I laughed at it too but now I kinda got to like it. More or less.

How does it correspond to the lyrics? No idea!

They might even fail, I don't care too much about that.
At least the dresses look cool! And they're from my region so double coolness

Better rehearsal for Greece, also the camera trick in the midle of the song, is now implemented!

Albania is a sure qualifier , but she must not be so static, move and dance Juliana. :D :D
