Re: Eurovision 2010 - Rehearsals

Manga's rehearsal was really good! I think there were no problem but the sounds of vocals. I hope it's just because of the mic system.
And Romania! I expected to see a better show. Because song is great, singers are great. But they're just sitting down. If they make a show more moving, It will be better for them . Maybe like Denmark. MOVEEE =D

Re: Eurovision 2010 - Rehearsals

As I did with the semi 1 rehearsals, I will do a list of how it will go after the 2nd semis first rehearsals! ;)

1. -il Israel - Even if I wanted a better rehearsal, I still believe that this will appeal to many voters and there and especially many juries and this problably win the semi. Not sure though if it will go all the way to the win..but of course it can do it!
2. -az Azerbaijan - Safura has done a great job, vocally it is impressing. Still the show is a little overworked and that may be the problem for her, still she is one of the hot contenders for the win!
3. -tr Turkey - MaNga should have no problem to qualify with that performance, despite the epileptic background. A possible top 5 placement in the final for the Turks! :)
4. -se Sweden - Best rehearsal in the semi (and it is not cause I am a swede). A Great performance from Anna, comfortable and vocally really strong. Watch out for Sweden in the final, we will be there! ;)
5. -ro Romania - Not 100% sure after the Romanian rehearsal, but this one should easily pass, especially after the amazing draw between two of the worst songs in the contest. The silly dancing after standing up from the piano should be removed and they should be top 3 in the semi! :)
6. -am Armenia - With or without diaspora, Armenia should pass! It feels that Eva didn't show everything yet, so maybe it can move further up on this list after the 2nd rehearsal! ;)
7. -hr Croatia - The only reason why Croatia is only 7th is that they are so few balkan countries in this semi. Still, everything seems easy (HA, I know the song means "Everything Is Easy" ) for Feminnem and a place in the final it will be!
8. -ge Georgia - Sofia may be the best singer in the contest. Still the performance is way too much musical for my taste and it looks actually silly. Georgia will pass though, cause this is a good song!
9. -cy Cyprus - Here starts the prediction to get hard. Cyprus did a good rehearsal, still I have some worries that the viewers will be bored and forget them after all countries been sung, but the one that saves it is the british and Irish voters that will enjoy it and put it to 9th, at the moment..
10. -dk Denmark - In my opinion, this was the worst rehearsal in the semis. Chaneé did very well, but N'evergreen didn't really do a good job at all IMO. He looked tired, nervous and uninspired. He seemed not intersted at all. Denmark is 10th on my list...but watch out, this may be the big flop of ESC 2010!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
11. -ua Ukraine - To be honest, I don't knw if Ukraines rehearsal was good or bad...It was medium. Still Ukraine is in the battle with Cyprus and Denmark for a place in the final, together with...
12. -ie Ireland - Niamh is also a very strong singer, having also a great draw after Slovenias madness. Still, I would maybe like some more movement on the backing singers or something, it feels a little boring to go all the way, but actually, this could very well pass.
13. -bg Bulgaria - Bulgaria is always going grande, powerful, but not very tasteful. This time it is tasteful, but honestly, how many people will remember this song after all songs being played...some maybe, but not enough I'm afraid.
14. -lt Lithuania - I am a little sad for Lithuania. If they would have been in Semi 1, this would problably pass easily..now this semi is a bit too hard I think for them and people will prefer other songs :(
15. -sl Slovenia - Slovenia should say thank you to Croatia and Switzerland...these two are the only countries that will give Slovenia some points....I will not comment this song..
16. -nl Netherlands - HURRAY! Sieneke doesn't look 40 anymore...she looks like 28! Many people will laugh at it, but will not vote for it..oh well maybe some small points from some western ones will help it! :p
17. -ch Switzerland - Despite a pretty good rehearsal, I still can't see people vote for "Gollum". Still he looks better with a beard! :)

Re: Eurovision 2010 - Rehearsals

A lot of good rehearsals today:

Georgia (fantastic choreography, and I love that Sofia is part of it from start to finish. If she can control her singing during her dance moves, this is a sure qualifier)
Cyprus (great song, great live performance, nice and simple lighting. I really hope this will qualify, but I'm afraid Sweden is going to steal a lot from his votes)
Croatia (not sure about the heart at the end, but all the rest was classy)
Turkey (there's a lot going on stage here, whether it will look great or chaotic will depend a lot on the camera work. Ferman sounded excellent, but the backing vocals were too loud)
Romania (Paula's voice is amazing! They do have great chemistry together, but it does look too static so far. Hopefully there will indeed be more spectacle in the final, and something better than that awkward dance routine they're doing after standing up from the piano)
Ireland (Niamh's got charisma and a beautiful voice, the background singers were a bit too static though)

Netherlands (She started a bit nervous, but really got into it. Her vocals didn't sound too bad and the act is silly enough to get some joke votes, but they should have gone further with it.)
Bulgaria (Miro sounds great, but the switching to English mid-song is a bad mistake. I also expected a little more movement from him.)

Slovenia (I have no idea what staging could save this song, and apparently they didn't either. Looks like they're just improvising it on stage as they go along. Terrible)

Re: Eurovision 2010 - Rehearsals

Okay, here is my review of today's rehearsals

Netherlands
Sieneke sang much better than expected so that was a pleasant surprise. I think the stage looks great, very circus-ish, the lights and colors used are just perfect for this song. The overall appeal of the song is very low but at least it's visually entertaining. And I'm so glad that Sieneke actually looked like her age today.

Slovenia
They pretty much didn't change anything from the NF performance. They are vocally very consistent but there is just nothing eye popping happening and the fact it wasn't a fan favorite in the first place I just didn't see anything that would change my mind about their chances to qualify for the finals.

Romania
I was pleasantly suprised, their vocals (especially Paula) were quite good, I really enjoyed the opera part, she really hit that high note well. Nothing has changed from the NF performance, they sit at the piano until after the opera portion of the song (which makes sense) and then walk around the stage with some strange choreography which I find rather strange. They apparently are not using a whole lot of special effects yet but this will probably one of the songs that will be more visually appealing than musically but I am rather confident that this is going to qualify.

Ireland
Niamh is a great singer and she proved today that she proved to us tonight that you don't need a big choreography and sexy dancers to impress. I really like the atmosphere on stage, the lights and decoration looks great but the focus will be on the singer and her voice. I see great things happening for Ireland this year.

Cyprus
This is probably my favorite song this year so I was obviously anxious to see the first rehearsals and I was satisfied. No changes or exciting effects, it's all about the Jon and the Islanders. Great singing, there are really not a whole lot of lighting used (unless i missed something) but it works with the song. While I don't believe it's going to qualify I am quite happy with what I saw today.

Bulgaria
Now I must say I'm not a big fan of the song but I really enjoyed the performance. Miro was vocally solid and quite comfortable onstage. The first song tonight with an actual choreography (dancing). It's very eurovision overall so that alone will probably bring in some points for Bulgaria. "Angel si ti" sounds so much better live in a big arena than recorded. And I didn't really mind the english portion of the song. So I am not counting out Bulgaria, it was certainly the biggest suprise of the day for me.

Croatia
They were amazing. They looked great, they sounded great and they were very confident and comfortable onstage. Another choreography that hasn't really changed from the NF but why fix something if it isn't broken? Seriously all three ladies sounded great and it's just totally a nice change of pace. One of the songs I would consider a safe qualifer. Way to go Croatia. The stage looks great, too.

Georgia
I certainly did not expect Georgia to come up with a big choreography, I didn't think that this would be the kind of song for that so I am undecided and will wait and see how it looks on camera. I'm impressed with Sopho's singing especially considering that she moves around on stage quite a lot, great control. Having a choreography mightactually even help setting themselves apart from all the other ballads in this semi. Sopho gave 100% in her first rehearsals i just hope she will give her voice enough rest until the next rehearsal.

Turkey
Last up is turkey and I actually thought they had the worst rehearsal of the night but that obviously doesn't mean a whole lot. The singing just didn't feel right. The backing singers were too loud, not sure if it was a mic/sound issue or they just had a bad vocals. Big performance and effects will probably bring Turkey a lot of extra votes. I personally don't like the outfits or the stage performance and effects but I know a lot of people will so what maNga needs to worry about at this point should be the vocals.

Re: Eurovision 2010 - Rehearsals

I liked Georgia a lot. In the panel, I said that it was a grower, that is a nice song, but that it is just not good enough for me. If this turn out how I think it will, Georgia will move much higher on my ranking. The choreography was excellent. I liked the dynamics going on and it would make this song stood up among all the other ballads. Well done! :D
The others were pretty good. Turkey was a bit messy and Slovenia really did not appeal to me at all. Switzerland still looks boring and so does the Irish song.

I havent timed every song, but Azerbaijan's song is 3.10, it was 3.35 in the nationals. They need to cut an other 10 seconds of the performance, but what part?

Re: Eurovision 2010 - Rehearsals

I watched the videos from the rehearsals and my ranking of the live performances is quite surprising as most of my favorites don't even make the top 10.

1. UKRAINE

I really liked the studio version of this song, although I strongly dislike the social theme and the cheesy lyrics. However, that rehearsal: Oh my God! Her voice is so powerful and the fact that she's standing alone in the stage makes it even better. The lights seem to work perfectly for this especially during the second part of the song. I just hope they come across on camera as well as they did on the rehearsal videos. Very, very impressed by Alyosha. Better than Ani, Svetlana and Verka combined!

2. CROATIA

The vocals are perfect, the song is very good and the girls look nice on stage. I don't mind the choreography, on the contrary I think it adds to the performance during the instrumental part by the end. The only thing I'm iffy about is the heart at the end. Take that away and this is a serious contender to win... deservedly so.

3. ARMENIA

I particularly liked this rehearsal because of the flawless vocal performance and her simple but effective performance. This song is not on my Top 10 this year but I can see Armenia placing high if Eva continues to perform as strongly as she did in this first rehearsal.

4. AZERBAIJAN

Although I don't like the idea of stairs, the singer is surprisingly good for a 17 year old. This is not my favorite entry but I wouldn't be mad it if won. It's a definite qualifier and bound to make at least Top 5 in the final.

5. ALBANIA

I don't know what the hell they were thinking bringing that violinist onstage. He adds absolutely nothing to the performance but distract from Juliana and look completely out of place. That said, this is one of the stronger uptempo songs and the vocal performance is faultless. If they get rid of the violinist (which I doubt) and work on the camera angles so it doesn't look like Juliana is just standing in one place through the entire performance (which she is) than this has a pretty good chance of a top 10 placement in the final.

Re: Eurovision 2010 - Rehearsals

About yesterday rehearsals I must say that I'm very, very disappointed with Turkey. It was a vocal disaster, though the visual presentation was amazing. They only need to sing and we'll probably go to Instanbul again next year.

Bulgaria was a pleasant surprise. Miro was vocally perfect and the performance looked amazing. It's also a very nice song, so it should qualify.

Croatia was just lovely!!! :D

Ireland proved that the song doesn't need a lot of dancers and effects to look good like, for example, Azerbaijan. They just have an amazing singer which should be enough.

About the rest, nothing really remarkable.
Can't wait to see Slovakia, Serbia and Belgium again :D

The singing will hopefully be okay this time. I cannot stand seeing sound or voice problems two times in a row.
God, it would be great if we win this year. But I don't think it'll be in Istanbul next time we win, they might choose Izmir this time which is also a great city.
