Manel Neuer wore a captain's armband in the colors of rainbow to make a statement of tolerance yesterday and also in the match against France. Now UEFA is investigating. How sad having to investigate in such a case where someone cares for human rights and equality. (n)

Edit: Just read that UEFA won't investigate. At least a good sign!

My tomorrow's wishes:

- Ukraine or Austria will win their match against each other. Draw would be disaster for Finland's hopes to get to playoffs, because both Ukraine and Austria have done more goals than Finland.

- Finland will get at least draw against Belgium. That will end up us to 4 points and secure third place on group B.

- Match between Russia and Denmark depends on, how Finland and Belgium will play against each other. If Belgium wins, Russia should at least get draw against Denmark. If draw, Denmark should win, so Finland will be 2nd place on Group B. if Finland wins, draw or Russia's loose would be best options.

:nl: and :mk: game is whatever, but it would be nice for :mk: to win at least one game on this tournament.

I wonder if Belgium is gonna follow the example of Italy and bring on a B team to give their stars a break... Needless to say that also the B team of Belgium has more quality on paper than Finlands best eleven. Nevertheless a B team is never as well attuned as the first eleven so I guess this would actually a good chance for Finland to grind out a draw of even more. My fingers are crossed

Primarily I am supporting Denmark in that group but I hope both Denmark and Finland qualify.

I really would like Denmark and Finland to go thru! So I hope that Denmark will beat Russia high! As for in group C I would like to see Austria and Ukraine in the next phase, but they are playing against each other today. I don't know if a draw would be the best?

It's going to be tough for Finland today. They will probably end up at least third, but to be sure they will need a point today I guess.

Hopefully eagle owl will fly around the field like in Finland on 2007, when Finland and Belgium played against each other and Finland won that match.

Well at least you did a pretty good World Cup last time

At least we were a part of the event  We beat Costa Rica and finished the competition with 3 points. Which is our maximum for quite a while.

This actually reminded me - so on top of not being a part of EURO for 20+ years, we also didn't pass the group stage for 23 years. Last time we passed the group stage of a huge competition was back in 1998. And back then we were also defeated by :nl: in 1/8 finals. It was considered a debacle back then, but seeing what came later, that was a huge success  We lost from :nl: on three consecutive championships that we participated in (1998, 2000, and 2006). So yeah, this is something to spark hope when your team is underperforming

@GianlucaTomoe : Yes, true, it's almost like we have a curse when it comes to (not) qualifying to EURO  There are many reasons for that, and most of them are not related to lack of quality. In general, we don't have the winning mindset in soccer atm, unfortunately. It's a psychological problem + there are usually internal conflicts inside the squad or on the relation between the Football Association (which is corrupted as hell, btw) and the coach, or between the Football Association and some players. Compared to our basketball team, for example, the soccer team looks ridiculous.

That being said, we are trying to change some things, we are standing well so far in World Cup 2022 qualifications and if we keep up like this, there is a chance that we may qualify to Qatar, which would be a great success.

...

Speaking of yesterday's matches, an expected victory of :it: and unfortunately :tr: didn't manage to do anything :ch: :( I hope :tr: will rise again after this failure, there is so much potential in this team. But unfortunately, this was not the tournament for :tr: :(

Ukraine's game was so toothless, poor fans who came there to see this.
Also it looks like 1st half of Round of 16 will be tougher, Italy probably facing Belgium in quarter final, Germany or France in semifinal. Second half seems a bit easier.

Denmark leads 0-1 against Russia.

Btw. Nice save by Hradecký.

Finland has survived first half of the match against Belgium. Some good changes from Belgium, but Hradecký made good saves.

Now I wish a second goal for Denmark & Finland to keep the clean sheet and get the draw

So, Finland would advance to Round of 16 and Denmark would pass Ukraine in the third-place-ranking and only need to leave one more team behind them, possibly one of Croatia/Scotland/Slovakia :)
