Ronaldo is an arrogant pig, and it doesn't surprise me that a certain person likes him, but Portugal absolutely deserved it last night. They proved they were tactically superior, and also that they actually play better without Ronaldo.

It was fitting though that we had a shit game to end a shit tournament. It all makes sense now why Scotland didn't qualify. Our great players didn't want to be associated with such a shitshow, so they are saving themselves for the World Cup.

What an unlikely winner. Like Denmark 1992 and Greece 2004.

Denmark 1992
12 years passing by
Greece 2004
12 years passing by
Portugal 2016
12 years passing by
Austria 2028?

--------------------

Btw, motto of this Euro was "defeat your nemesis"
Italy defeated Spain, which beat them before in 2008 and 2012
Then, Germany defeated Italy for the very first time in an important match
However, France beat Germany after they lost to us in WC 1982, 1986 and 2014.
Finally, Portugal finally beat France (In Euro 1984, 2000 and WC 2006 they lost to them)

It makes me laff when people hate on Ronaldo. Okay if you don't like his football (though I don't know why - he's one of the best there's ever been) but hating on him personally... he's one of the few top footballers who has a completely unblemished record, not been involved in any scandals - money, affairs, or whatever - he does shit loads for charity, and generally just gets on with his life privately without making a fuss xshrug

Indeed, it doesn't surprise me that a certain person here doesn't like him...

Do you mean in life in general or in football matters? And who do you see as a role model in football?

And I agree with you, we played better without Cris in the final.

In both. And I don't believe having a footballer as a role model in life is a good idea for anyone. There are far better role models out there.

Ronaldo pissed me off a bit with his comments about Iceland after that first match, but he totally deserved to finally win a tournament with Portugal. Seeing him cry when he realized he wasn't going to play the rest of the final, was heartbreaking. But the enthusiasm he showed during the extra time, proved that he didn't just want to win this for himself, but for his entire country. So congrats on the win Portugal. :D

I'm pretty gutted about Ronaldo's injury tho. The Supercup final between Real Madrid and Sevilla is in Trondheim in August, and it now seems unlikely that he'll play that match, which means I won't be able to see him live. Still hope for a good match tho, if I get a ticket for it. :)

Are these three really comparable when you consider that Portugal has made it at least to the quarter-finals in the last 7 tournaments ?

Not before the tournament but when Iceland suddenly looked like a giant in comparison to Portugal and when Portugal nearly failed to qualify for the round of 16, I'd say they were close enough to Denmark and Greece. This was one lucky path to victory.

Ronaldo has donated his entire Euro 2016 bonus to a kids cancer charity, like he did with his Champions League bonus.

Wat a ignorant pig.

Respect to him for that, absolutely no doubting his integrity and character off the pitch. His behavior on the pitch is admittedly a little different at times.

For a guy who makes as much money as he does, those kind of gestures mean very little. He wouldn't even notice that amount being taken out of his bank account.
