Wonder if it ever crossed your mind
That what we had was really unbelievable, unbeatable, a miracle
Why'd you have to go and mess it up?
Why'd you have to make what was unbreakable shakable, unsavable?
And now it's too late to cross your fingers
I'm wide awake and not a dreamer
Hate it, but it seems the dreams were never true
For a little while the fates were with us
Wonder why they had to turn against us
I could make a wish, but there is no use

I can feel
Even though I'm numb
The change to come will hurt someone
I can see
This time it isn't me
I might be the lucky one

I don't need a crystal ball to show me
Baby, it is plain that you don't know me
When it comes to you I'm better off alone (Better off alone)
I don't need a crystal ball to make me
Realize that if I stay you'll break me
Every sign is saying I should be gone
I should be gone

Thought I had a cloud over my head
It had to be my fault that it kept raining down
Until now, I figured out
That if I had the nerve to say goodbye
I could look for clearer skies up over head
Weather says sun instead

I don't need a crystal ball to show me
Baby, it is plain that you don't know me
When it comes to you I'm better off alone (Better off alone)
I don't need a crystal ball to make me
Realize that if I stay you'll break me
Every sign is saying I should be gone
I should be gone

I can feel (Even though I'm numb)
The change to come will hurt someone
I can see (I can feel)
This time it isn't me
I might be the lucky one

I don't need a crystal ball to show me
Baby, it is plain that you don't know me
When it comes to you I'm better off alone (Better off alone)
I don't need a crystal ball to make me
Realize that if I stay you'll break me
Every sign is saying I should be gone
I should be gone

Koit is actually better than I expected o_O
I don't know who told Uku that it's uptempo... it's meh and forgettable. Please, Estonia, don't make a mistake.

ps. REDEL - Tartu .... tfq!??? Can't wait to see the performance, loooool.

I'll wait for the clips. But I just know Jüri will be my winner (excited for Heleza and a couple of other as well tho)

Uku's one reminds me a bit of Help You Fly, which I was a big fan of, so I'm glad to see the glow up.

My two favourites are Gram-of-Fun (just for being a really good song? It's a shame Kristel Aaslaid is renowned for trash live vocals because I would love them to win) and Suured Tudrukud with their vaguely Christian-flavoured disco banger, we love to see it. Big fan of REDEL as well.

other highlights: Zevakin & Pluuto, Heleza, Tanja, the country one

also was it just me or did Alabama Watchdog's lyrics sound really - COVID denier-y?

Only heard everyone once, but liking the overall sound more than last few years. :) There seems to be a bit more variety & life to them, not quite as bland. Nothing was an immediate standout, but several songs I want to hear again to make up my mind.

Heleza's French song is cute and a bit unexpected.

She won't win but I could see Kadri getting to the superfinal if she blows people away live.

Why did Zevakin leave himself with the weakest of the three songs he produced?

I was beginning to lose interest already in 2019, but now I definitely lost interest in what's becoming one of the worst Eurovision-countries. They went from being one of the edgiest countries, sending entries that didn't cater for what the fans wanted to hear, to give them exactly what they want. It also doesn't help the fact that by now Eesti Laul is intoxicated by these desperate wannabes like Ivo Linna, Koit Toome, Uku Suviste etc., who participate in the selection every year, always looking for the exposure given by Eurovision, and who are hyped by the fans every year. Estonia needs a new HoD, to give the country a new regeneration in the contest.

You're joking, right? I guess you're not very familiar with the Estonian music scene, because some of those people are among the most successful musicians here. Ivo Linna's career, in particular, was decades long before we even participated in Eurovision the first time :ROFLMAO:

Well, given the size of Estonia, ending up with repeating names is pretty much inevitable. At the end of the day there are only so many professional singers & songwriters around, so unless you deliberately go for unknown names over the old ones, you'll find the same faces popping up again and again. It's not like it was that much different in the early Eesti Laul days, with the likes of Mimicry or Jaan Pehk taking part year after year after year. And, if I'm not mistaken, this is only the second participation in Eesti Laul for both Koit Toome and Ivo Linna. Don't think you can really call that taking part every year. :D Of course if you go back to Eurolaul days, you'll find more of their entries.

The whole "Eesti Laul as a haven for alternative songs" was really Heidy Purga's (and maybe Normet's, to some extent) pet project. She was the one personally inviting different alternative acts to take part and picking like-minded juries etc. It's not as if our televoters really went for that type of music either. 90% of the time they would go for the generic pop option while the cool alternative stuff would fill the bottom of the scoreboard. So I guess it was always kind of inevitable the whole thing would change course once Purga & co retired. Maybe if someone with very similar taste takes over again might we get a return of the old and 'cool' Eesti Laul. But our radio charts are full of generic pop & the kind of stuff you find in Eesti Laul these days, and our televoters mostly love cheese, so.. you really need someone at the top to specifically push the alternative angle, otherwise it just won't happen.

Yeah, exactly. Plus, as I've said before, ESC fans often forget that the reality and public attitude was also different when Eesti Laul first started and that fostered the vaguely "anti-Eurovision/alternative" spirit of early EL. That would, of course, eventually fade away and lead into more "regular pop" type entries.

In actuality Tuuli Rand has taken part in the most Eesti Lauls of this lineup (excluding Suured Tudrukud's many outings as backing singers) with six appearances (2013 twice with Teele, Tuuli & ULA and Söörömöö, 2014 with VÖÖRAD , 2016 as Windy Beach, 2019 with Öed and 2021), Uku is close behind with four appearances (2016, 2019, 2020, 2021)

I haven't heard any of their songs and I don't tend to except winning song. But I've heard that there is a band alabama watchdog with covid-19 and transphobic lyrics that will compete? Is it true? Cause that's pretty bold from them. ok, spread the word. :ROFLMAO:

My winner is Alabama Watchdog! Yes, it's edgy, but i don't find it offensive. The song just reflects on our society. Loosen up, people.

"Get down for a lockdown, stay sane till it blows out" xmetal

Here are my main 6 stand-outs:

:12:Alabama Watchdog "Alabama Watchdog"
:10:Tanja "Best Night Ever" (too bad she didn't go with her song "Hurricane")
:8:Uku Suviste "The Lucky One"
:7:Tuuli Rand "Üks öö"
:6:Gram-Of-Fun "Lost in a Dance"
:5:Andrei Zevakin & Pluuto "Wingman"

This is a strong edition because some acts i didn't mention above can convince after i see them live.

About Uku: In 2019, i didn't want him to win at all, in 2020, he was just some guy i had no strong feelings one way or the other, but in the end "What Love Is" ended up in a decent 22nd place for me. This time, i love his song right away and he's one of my favorites. I'd be very happy to see him at eurovision with "The Lucky One".
