Montenegro being in any viral chart makes me seriously question their accuracy. Are we sure these charts have any more 'users' than iTunes? How many people listening does it take to get on them? Can one dedicated fan replaying a song 200 times get you on the chart?
I'm guessing many of Victors voters might indeed have been casual voters or mums. Clearly he's not a fan favourite. Well, whatever the case, I'm glad he found some kind of an audience. Hopefully some of them will throw a few votes our way come Saturday as well.
You made a point with Montenegro
I wish I knew more about how those charts were calculated. I know the Estonian ones are not the most reliable as Spotify is not that popular here yet. Our #1 song only has 6k daily streams, compared to Finland's 70k. Considering their population, Spotify is more than twice popular around there.
Generally, iTunes has just been dying worldwide while Spotify and Apple Music are constantly rising. In most countries it only takes a few downloads to be charting on iTunes but it's not the case for Spotify, which most kids, teens and young adults use to consume music. Streaming is even more important than radio play for Billboard charts etc. So, Spotify is very accurate and the chart positions do matter more than iTunes.
This, of course, has nothing to do with the actual results. Streaming is basically another form of culture. Eurovision is not just putting on a song or playlist while walking to work.
