It's time for the rehearsals to finally get underway for Eurovision 2024 at Malmö Arena! 37 countries will begin their preparations for this year's contest today, with over two weeks of coverage to come from the ESC United team on the ground!

So pleased for Latvia and Georgia, they were the best two performances of the night for me. Only result I was shocked at was Armenia, didn’t think they had a chance of getting through. I would’ve picked Malta instead, but they didn’t do themselves any favours picking a clip where she wasn’t singing for the recap! After having watched every contest from 2011 onwards, I have to say I think this is the worst year in terms of the quality of the songs overall, but that won’t dampen my excitement for the final on Saturday!

I'm so happy for Nutsa and Dons. "Firefighter" is only okay-ish IMO, but Nutsa is incredible. Her vocals and energy were so good. And while "Hollow" is nothing outstanding, IMO it's better then it's fellow ballads here. At least it feels genuine, compared to "Mon Amour" (clicheed and overperformed) and "Hurricane" (which is just plastic).

And it's so cool that Georgia and Latvia broke their NQ streaks alongside Ireland!

(And honestly, it's good they did it this year - because if Israel wins on Saturday, this contest is not surviving that. At least not in its current state. And nearly 40% of votes smells like organized mass voting tbh - those numbers beat 2022 Ukraine by quite a bit.)

I don't think it is that surprising. You can't downvote songs in Eurovision. There are lots of pro-Israel people who may not be that vocal and may not even be in the majority, but they will make sure to vote en masse. The news of boycotting and protests will only motivate them more, many of us said that here before.
