Armenia are really determined to X My Heart themselves, aren't they? Completely missing an open goal with that staging

Re: ESC United - LIVE from Tel Aviv - Day 3 rehearsal discussion

Just to sum up the previous day shortly before we move on to this one:

Belgium - Slightly disappointed by everything here. The staging is completely off and he doesn't sound good vocally. If nothing improves, I think it will not qualify.

Georgia - Much better than I expected. Very good vocally and the staging is spot-on. I seriously believe that he can actually surprise and qualify now.

Australia - This was by far the best rehearsal overall and I doubt many countries will be able to repeat this type of awesomeness. This is how it's done! I can even see her as a winner of semi 1 quite easily.

Iceland - They were amazing as expected and the whole staging will look even better on TV. One thing that I have to add is that they had a more convincing act in Reykvaik. The part where Einar is smashing the cages was so amazing and I am not particularly fond of this replacement. It doesn't fit the theme. The pyros are awesome though and I can't wait to see them on TV :D

Estonia - I do like the song but the staging is so boring and forgettable. That and the fact that he comes after :au: and :is: certainly don't work in his favor. Doesn't look like a qualifier.

Portugal - I love the song, but in general, things don't look promising :( I like the staging but the costumes need to be changed. I hate to admit it, but I feel he is not going to make it :( And it will be such an injustice.

Greece - I like the colors but the concept of the staging is somehow....strange. Didn't look as strong as I expected. She will certainly qualify, but maybe from a position closer to 10th place than 1st.

San Marino - I don't think he will make it, but this is so fun and enjoyable. Makes me laugh every time  He's such a legend. I would love to see him make it through, but as I said........it will be a great conclusion to this semi and a song that I will truly enjoy listening :D

So, after reading your summaries from the day 1 and 2, my conclusion is that the first part of the semi 1 is not that "weak" as everyone predicted before the rehearsals. To me, it looks that someone from the "great" fan favorites for being so special might fall very, very flat and stay out of the finals. The question is who. Aparently, dark clouds are now gathering above Belgium, Estonia, and in particular Portugal who had a lot of love and support, but right now they seem border qualifiers at best. On the other hand, I am quite happy that some "written-off" songs are making a comeback - especially Georgia and Belarus. Finally, I must mention, I still love Montenegro and I am hoping they will qualify. Yeah, they look like mess from the arena, but this "mess" perhaps will come well across the camera. Something fun, relaxed and non-robotic with a catchy tune can be endearing as well.

Re: ESC United - LIVE from Tel Aviv - Day 3 rehearsal discussion

My thoughts on today's rehearsals (based on rehearsal clips + ESCUnited live stream):

- Armenia: Vocally she is definitely her best considering how she sounded at the pre-parties. Staging looks empty, though you have all the smoke/fire effects coming in. Dark like the video, really weird choice as an opener.

- Ireland: Surprisingly I really like the setting. The 50's/60's diner inspired done in popart style really enhances the song. I would have preferred if the setting is in pastels like what they have done with the DWTS Ireland performance. Vocally she is shaky at times but she got better after each run through. Outfit look good. I am looking forward to it.

- Moldova: Vocally no doubt she is on point, she looks amazing in the dress and that's it. The staging wise is a blatant rip off of Ukraine 2011, but I didn't know about it until the hardcore ESC fans brought that up. So new ESC viewers or casual viewers may not recall this is a rip off unless the commentator mentions it. Looks like Moldova is doing whatever they can to prevent a non-qualification.

- Switzerland: Someone needs to ban SJB. She basically brings in nothing new to the staging. 4 dancers again (and who got that? Cyprus this year). Did not like the staging colour scheme, would have preferred something warmer, closer to the video rather than just black and red. Luca sounded decent, he is not known for his vocals anyway, so as long he doesn't go out of breath or out of tune, once he serves the choreography, he will do well. But I feel the stage looks ridiculously empty, the pan out shot when he is alone on stage does not look good.

- Latvia: Pretty much a non-event. Vocals were great as expected. Staging looks decent, the colour scheme seems to signify from the night to the break of the day. There is some bokeh effects on screen, should look good.

- Romania: Vocals seems fine. Staging looks like an tone down version of the National Finals though looks better. 2 dancers join Ester. But nothing screams wow about this performance.

- Denmark: Vocals as per usual. Outfit is the same. There is not much of a change from the National Finals except that she got 2 more people sitting with her on the big chair swaying. Same old same old.

- Sweden: Vocally delivered as usual. Didn't like the LED screen colour, should have retained the gold/yellow setting. It looks too bright now with the coral/orange hues. As usual, with Sweden's performance, nothing drastic much is changed from the National Finals.

- Austria: Looks a very dark performance, vocally, definitely her best. I was hoping they will do something like what they did in the video, have a screen/projector behind her with cool effects and doing a close up static shot, focusing on her belting the song. Can't see if LED backdrop is being used cause the background is pitch black with some silver lighting and her outfit is black, so she is like literally blended into the background except her body + head and blue hair.

No problems in Tel Aviv, if you didn't read the news you wouldn't even know!

Re: ESC United - LIVE from Tel Aviv

My thoughts (quick summary) about the rehearsals

I have watched every rehearsal snippet once so far so these are the ones that stuck most in my head:

- Cyprus: positive! Background matches clothes and message. Not too overloaded.
- Montenegro: positive! No bouncing zig zag on stage, simple background, matching clothes. Job done.
- Greece: positive! staging light and soft, just like the song
- Australia: positive! of course...
- Austria: positive! still dislike the song but the best staging of all. Very little LEDs but not too boring dark only. just perfect for the song!
- Sweden: positive! powerful and simple

- Georgia & Estonia: semi-positive! looks like their videos and I don't like that. Too artifical, nothing appropriate for a live song
- San Marino: semi-positive! love the people on stage but the background... too much! We get it, it's na na na!
- Romania: semi-positive! Nice background but weak voice and the background was a bit too overloaded. Plus, I would expect that symbols from Greece.

- Belgium: negative! I'm so disappointed. By far the worst staging. In no way this is appropriate
- Ireland: negative! Boy, my eyes. Too much, too much!
- Belarus: negative! see Ireland
- Portugal: negative! too much background, too weird clothes

The rest of the songs were nothing special. Staging as I expected. Nothing bad or too exciting.
