Not wanting to dance anymore, but I must dance
It seems like they're trying to do what was done in '88 to give bigger depth to the venue

We need LEDs in case there is an awful song you can watch visuals at least.

I am not sure what I feel about the stage, I will judge when I see it in action.

meh. personally i would be 100% fine if LED stages never ever came back but i do understand that it makes things more competitive for delegations with less money.

but can we all agree on a rule that bans artists from using themselves as their backdrop? the lisa ajax rule let's get it done y'all

Lisa Ajax is hot. I can totally get why she wanted to be seen on the Backdrop.

That was embarrassing to watch tbh

Honestly I hope that - with the LEDs coming back - we won't get back to 2017, which was mainly about uninspired backdrops and empty stages.

I don't hate LEDs (some acts this year would have looked better with them imo), yet I hope we'll have a balance between props and screens.

LEDs are fine, but the overuse of them and overreliance on them in recent years has really damaged the contest. A song shouldn't have to rely on the LEDs, or the stage show, to do well. The LEDs and stage show serve the song, not the other way around.

It's irritating that RTP was praised by the EBU for the best contest ever and the lack of LED, and I couldn't agree more. And yet LED are already set to return.

I hope though that the visual concepts for 2019 are more clever than those of 2017. The stage looks quite promising already.

Actually I was glad that there was no LED last year. As Anto475 said above correctly, there was an overuse. A nice balance would be fine, but I have the feeling that people will misuse LED again when it is not necessary.

LEDs are an essential Part of ESC. Only poor countries should be allowed to do without LEDs.

I thought it was more expensive with LEDs than without?

I mean only poor countries shpuld be allowed to host without LEDS.

How do you define "misuse" and "overuse"?? I mean which kind of content is okay? That's quite a silly thing to say in my opinion... I'd rather say it's totally personal taste. For example I can't stand those selfie backgrounds without any purpose... :?

You probably might be right about LED being a personal taste. Maybe I should say that I want entries to use LEDs when they lift a song up, when they add a new perspective to the contents. But you know many things we are talking about here are about personal taste. What songs you like/dislike, what songs are over-/underrated, the Juries, the televotes ...

I think 2018 did it really good without LEDs

to me the flagship example of good use of the LED stage is loin d'ici. that concept would be so complicated and expensive to create with physical props, and yet having it on the screen and floor instead did not look lazy at all and probably looked better than physical props would in that instance. 10/10.

True. And the opposite example for me is something like :sl: 2015. I remember Ray saying something like he doesn't want any "Windows background"... But in the end it felt totally lacklustre with out any LED

I am neither pro or against using LEDs, It is nice to change up the game sometimes. 2018 was a lovely contest that worked well without LEDs, but I think it will be nice to see it back in 2019. It makes the broadcasters to be on their toes to try different things each year.
