But this year the criteria for the professional juries was altered at the last minute.

That’s because production problems throughout Eurovision 2019 have compromised artists’ performances.

Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet reports the EBU and Christer Bjorkman issued fresh instructions to juries on Thursday.

Apologies were made to the juries that the production was “not complete”. They were then instructed to vote on “song” alone and “how it sounds”.

Aftonbladet also reports the move has been used to placate delegations frustrated by production problems:

“They [the proudction team] have tried to calm everyone with the fact that the jury groups have received special instructions on disregarding the TV production.”

The Swedish tabloid suggests the move was motivated by problems in rehearsals experienced by Sweden and North Macedonia among others. It also suggests problems in sound mixing have influenced the decision.

i cannot even begin to describe the ways in which this is a shitshow. already preparing the jury hate thread of 2019.

Well... that‘s really unfair for all the faster songs. No wonder songs like Romania didn’t qualify.

Disregard the juries, not the TV production. I'm done with the juries, I'm done. They're at the core of everything wrong about this contest since 2009.
Give them SIM cards if they really wanna be involved in the decision making process.
It's much easier to manipulate 6 people than thousands of voters.

Do we know for a fact that the producer knows the semi results while preparing the running order for the final? I think they should never have that information in the first place. It's really unreasonable to give that information to a person who has too much influence on the running order.

Yeah, especially since the public didn’t have the chance to vote for the „song“ only... so that means people at home who have watched the same semi as the juries, only one day later, were left to deal with production problems but juries not?

were they supposedly asked to judge only the song or at least how the song is sung live? Because in the first case they could just have them listen to the studio version and not even bother with the jury show. And to be honest I believe that the criteria for juries should be much clearer and much more transparent anyway.

As I understand it, they just basically asked the juries to ignore production issues by the Israeli broadcaster that they can’t do anything about but not ignore the actual staging
