Lots of familiar names this year. Tinkara's on the Slovenian jury, Roberto Bellarosa's on the Belgian jury, Marie Myriam is on the French one, Ruth Lorenzo, Rosa Lopez and Pastora Soler are all on the Spanish jury, Georg Schlunegger (who wrote both Anna Rossinelli's and Takasa's songs) is chair of the Swiss jury, and I also noticed David Arch (conductor for the Eurovision's Greatest Hits concert) is on the UK jury

You know, I really don't tend to like this emote, but I feel the need to use it for the first time: xpuke

They chose Richard Wilkins for our jury? WHY? The guy's a scumbag morning presenter for breakfast television. I didn't even know he had a music career until I brought it up to my mum just then (and she had a similar reaction to mine). Apparently he had one song that peaked at about #60 in our charts a few decades ago, and that was it apart from him occasionally trying to plug trashy pop music on his show.

I remember seeing him comment on our participation in Eurovision this year on a number of occasions, and he was virtually clueless. I can't be bothered finding the source at the moment, but when Guy Sebastian was announced as our contestant, his response was 'Why him? He's not trashy enough, where are the pink feather boas and sequins? Eurovision's not the right place for respectable artists'. Who decided it'd be a good idea to include this guy on a Eurovision jury!?

As for the other Aussie jurors, I... have no idea. I haven't heard any of their names before. Which probably isn't a great sign.

I'll just say this in advance: please forgive us if our votes are terrible. :?

Serbia also got two former participants in our jury (Marko Kon from 2009 and Nevena from Moje 3). Also the guy who wrote Molitva and his wife are in the jury. So basically only the chairman is outside ESC circles. :mrgreen:

Let's see if they are going to vote for Ann-Sophie :cool:

I think Aminata's hopes of getting Norwegian points just went up.

Just saw a couple of the Australian jurors interviewed. One said that he'd strongly support acts that were 'socially progressive' and 'quirky', and another one mentioned enjoying unique novelty acts. So... I suppose we can expect to be sending a few points to :fi:? :?

I think I will like the Australian jury. Seems that they have gone full blown troll with them.

:es: has four former ESC performers: Rosa López, Daniel Diges, Pastora Soler and Ruth Lorenzo...no doubt that powerful ballads and show-off voices will get the most Spanish jury points, most probably :it: will be ranked first.
I wish TVE could have selected a more diverse jury.

that's true but the ballads are more in semi 2 than in semi 1, where Spain votes...

Is "hit potential" still part of the jury criteria?

I really wish they would remove that. Just because a song sounds modern or could be a hit in Germany, or wherever, doesn't mean its any good. Their suppose to be judging the quality of the song not its potential popularity xshrug

I think the ideal winner is a song with commercial success that's actually played on the radio, like Euphoria.
Winners that nobody wants to listen to in real life are the worst. (e.g. Russia, Azerbaijan)

Except that's your opinion not a fact. There are people who do like those songs

Leave the popularity thing to the televoters. The jury wasn't brought back to make ESC popular on the charts/radio. The charts and radio are a mess with a lot of crap anyway

If the winners are commercially successful, the contest itself is more relevant than it is, if the winners are ignored in real life. The televoters often vote for songs that they wouldn't really want to listen to in real life for various reasons, like the staging, the country of origin etc.

The question is if Eurovision should be an annual one-time event without much connection to the real world or if the winners are supposed to be popular outside the contest too. The latter would mean a legitimate song contest, the former would rather be the annual freak show and extravaganza that Eurovision is in the minds of many people.

So... in our jury we have:

- Franco Zanetti, he's a well known journalist throughout the web and the director of the most famous italian music website (Rockol);
- Nicolò Cerioni, who oversaw the outfit of our "Roman Empress" at the Eurovision last year (but he also directed many famous recent italian videoclips);
- Barbara Mosconi, journalist for the most important italian weekly listings magazine (Tv Sorrisi e Canzoni). She has been also a juror for the JESC 2014.
- Valerio Paolini, cofounder of Musixmatch, the world's largest lyrics catalog
- Flavia Cercato, radio speaker for Radio 101

I think it's actually a good quintet, maybe the best jury since our comeback
