ORF is coming up with a fresh Eurovision newsshow starting at Jan. 17.

The first show will include Arabella Kiesbauer, a Eurovision country profile presented by a celebrity (Serge Falck for Belgium) and a Top 18 countdown of the best Austrian entries in Eurovision. Rank 18 goes to Petry Frey.

The anchor is going to be Patrick Budgen.

Looks like ORF is doing a lot to rise public interest. They also tried their best to bring countries back. Not careless!

Many people think Austria is a liberal country now, full with open-minded people, because of Conchita.

The opposite is also still true, when a female couple gets thrown out a traditional, renowned Viennese cafe for the immoral act of kissing.

Kuss-Affäre: SPÖ startet neuen Anlauf für Homosexuellen-Gleichbehandlung - Homosexualität und Homophobie - derStandard.at

And here comes part that is important for Eurovision fans and international guests in Vienna. You are not going to get dismissed for the colour of your skin, nowhere in Austria, because that is forbidden by law for any guest house or leisure facility. They have to serve you, no matter what's your ethnical identity. BUT, as a homosexual you are nowhere safe, you can get dismissed anywhere for misbehaviour if the host says so.

So you're comparing the policy of one traditional coffee house to the whole country/city? Sounds legit. You know, there was a massive uproar and a shitstorm against Prückel after the incident as well - let alone the kissing protests in front of the café.

That being said, of course Austria is still a very conservative country - at least in the rural parts. :p

No, I don't do that and I approve of kissing wherever people like. Yet hosts have the right to kick you out on the street for whatever reason, except for racial reasons. Their is no legal right that protects kissing your loved one in a public place, rather a right to disapprove of it and counteract it.

You can be sure that I know what was going on afterwards, just open the link I posted above.

Anke Engelke, host 2011 and spokeswoman 2012, gave an interview to the German Spiegel

SPIEGEL ONLINE: Haltung haben Sie bewiesen, als sie beim Eurovision Song Contest auf die Lage im damaligen Gastgeberland Aserbaidschan hingewiesen haben.

You stood up against the situation in the host country Azerbajan at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Well, that was not the smartest move: Would I have gotten more to the point, Roman Lob would have gotten disqualified. Actually you have nothing to say, you may not even react. But when half of Europe is watching and applauding "the great show"?

Even if Anke had said something harder like "you Azerbaijan suck, you corrupt undemocratic criminals", I don't see why Roman Lob could see disqualified for that. At all.

Well, I don't think Austria is unfriendly towards gay people, I mean, there is probably idiots that disapprove of it and there may be loopholes in the law that allows owners to throw out LGBT people, but Austria is not the only country with a strange law. In Sweden, selling sex is legal. However: buying it is not.

Also, I've heard that in Denmark there is still a rule from the old days when Sweden and Denmark was in war, that if a Dane see's a Swede walk over the ice to Denmark, the Dane is free to shoot the Swede! I'm a bit unsure if it's removed though, but I think it has yet to be taken away (obviously it has been forgotten).

And Kinder Eggs are illegal in the USA. I still believe Austria is a gay friendly environment, just as Germany! At least your police does not register on gay sites, go out on dates and then beat the shit out of the gay guy! So proud of Anke telling Azerbaijan that the world is watching.

I wouldn't have to be up until 9:30, but I'll be darned if I miss that.

I hope I'll be able to watch the allocation draw live, even if we won't know the final draw yet, it'll be exciting to find out what are the countries that'll compete against each other. And Kati Bellowitsch seems nice to me, she has been giving the Austrian points for quite some time now, I'd be happy if she was to be one of the hosts.
