I must be the only one who thought they were embarrassing then? The whole thing felt very frivolous and juvenile. But then again, most hosts this past decade have been horrible (or rather, their script writers should have been fired).

True, these hosts weren't stiff or brainless, but it simply wasn't funny. Like always, it feels so rehearsed and you can tell just how much the 'casual banter' is scripted down to the last word. I realize hosts always have scripts, but if you're going to be funny and make it seem casual, then be funny and make it sound casual. I didn't laugh once.

Anke did a wonderful job imo, I liked her a lot. Usually I don't like her on German TV but she did surprise me indeed yesterday. She looked beautiful.

Judith was kind of a beauty, the one for a bit of glamour, a bit reluctant but with a solid kind of presentation.

Stefan Raab was embarrassing, I agree, but I don't know why they have chosen him of all. He's a comedian with a black humour which would've been inappropriate for the Song Contest, so it wasn't funny at all - he is much better on German television.

Don't be too severe with them, I think they tried to contribute with a bit of fun and ease to make the show more kinda laid-back.

No I get that they tried to make it a bit fun and more laid-back, but for me it was neither fun nor laid-back. It's not so much the hosts fault as it is the scriptwriters'. Maybe I don't understand German humor.

There was too much "trams och flams" as we say in Swedish. Too much piffle and babble.

I agree.

We have a German word for it, which means, in translation, "vicarious embarrassment".

That is when I listen to Stefan Raab trying to be serious on TV. His bad English pronounciation [which he does on purpose more or less] is his signature feature in his comedy show. He makes up German-English nonesense which is funny on his TV show but he can't do that during the ESC shows. So he seems to be ridicoulous. Which he probably is. :D

Maybe each country has had its own non-funny scripts during the last ESCs but to be honest, I didn't understand most of it as the German commentators always blethered a lot during the presentation and explained the jokes afterwards so maybe I didn't get all the funny and non-funny jokes! ;)

Hosts were as horrible as they usually are at Eurovision (last year was an exception - THANK YOU, Norway!!). Forced bad jokes, REALLY really bad jokes, stupid facial expressions and everything was as unoriginal as possible. It was truly embarrassing, though I liked the general attitude of that little woman in purple.

Actually that hasn`t to do with German humor. You wouldn`t believe how many Monty Python Fans there are in German. I think Anke is doing a great job, but Stefan is absolutely misplaced. And his English is a disgrace. The problem is, that he is in the end the guy who actually won the contest last year. He came up with the idea of casting the singers and he did a damn good job. He got a feeling for the masses, but he should concentrate on Germany. He is defenitely no international showmaster.

i feel embarressed for german people with the hosts they chose, there are far better choices out there, anke was their saving grace though, while i failed to laugh, she was not annoying like the other two or hosts in previous years. So she gets the thumbs up from me, but the other two.......
