Yes that's true but we all know that the song contest isn't 100% about the song only and be honest, who will vote for the best song when it's sung soo crappy.
Not me tho.

For me it's only a song contest and I voted for :md: in 2006 and for :ad: in 2008 even if the live was awful :D

I like your attitude =D.
But yeah people who really does this are 90% Eurovision Fans I think.
I don't see the great mass of voters who aren't fans voting for a bad sung song.
80% or more of the viewers doesn't even heard this songs before except maybe some famous in their country.

I've generally stopped voting for songs I like but were performed badly, too, as there's almost no way they'll do well (apart from "Popular"...).

The live performance is very important to me. Studio versions are all shiny and great because they've been reworked in every way possible, I prefer judging the actual live performance (even if there's no live instruments anymore... yuck). That's why I was thoroughly disappointed at Blue's performance in Düsseldorf. It was so underwhelming for such a famous boys band.

I kinda agree with that. A singer that can`t sing is just painfull for the ears.

I kinda agree that Kristina didn`t deserve final, but I can`t say the same for Kuunkuiskaajat, cause the public voted for them. They didn`t voted for Kristina...

Also I agree with this change, the last 2 years it looked just like some idol competition and ESC is NOT an idol competition.

I also don't vote based on chances! If I would've liked :mk: this year I would've voted for it even if the odds where clearly showing that I would spend 1 Euro on nothing

When reading all these discussions here talking about the pros and cons it becomes clear that most of us don't really know 100% how the results come to be through the different approaches for voting. What I would suggest would be to take it to the next level of possible transparency: Making it an internet-only vote. That way you could easily implement a televoting system that lets you follow everything through your web browser (e.g.:click), everybody could acess all information anytime and maybe with a couple of buttons to see in detail where and when the votes come to be by sorted by country and musical acts. I mean come on, everybody is talking about transparency and democracy in europe these days, why not start here, where so many people are involved with their hearts and souls?

I like the idea of internet voting, also it could be done via Facebook. This year, Big Brother here has done Facebook voting for the first time, Im sure the EBU can do it too! Just the main thing for me is to have voting all the way through the show, I hate the voting window it's really a bad idea to go back to it in my view.

Well, I like the idea of voting from the beginning as well. But as the EBU said, there was pretty much no change in the voting pattern. The vast majority of people still voted at the end. Plus the one thing I never really liked was the fact that a third of the screen was covered by phone numbers, title etc which is a requirement when voting from the beginning of the show, it takes away from the artistic aspect.

I-net voting is the easiest one to fake. It's been already proven by Spain and Ukraine.
And changing it back to norm causes a huge load of cra... I mean drama.

I agree. This is where hackers could play a big role.

Matt, I do wonder why they put this statement out that all the votes still usually come at the end, that may be true but since when have they been bothered about what viewers do?! Im sure that they would have wanted to keep it open for the whole show to make the most money possible.

And if there were proper safeguards on internet voting then it wouldnt be a problem - as I said, our TV shows are starting to vote via Facebook and so far it's been successful - people buy credits and then spend them on votes. I think that it would be a good idea for the EBU to have a go and see how it goes.

As for the UK, we're going to have text voting back for the first time since 2007 I think :D. It had been stopped by the regulator because the TV companies had been telling people to keep on texting even though voting had closed (they did it on MYMU 2007, and other previous ones too I think).

I don't believe that the extended voting window had a major financial impact on them which is why the probably got rid of it. And I do know that a lot of people complained about the busy screen during a performance since they are required to show the numbers during the performance. With the extended voting window gone, we won't have to worry about that anymore, either.

OK, I have given it some thought: What about combined internet and phone voting? After all, not everybody nor every country has equal acess to internet.

Btw, I don't see why the risk of manipulation should be higher via internet voting. It is an idea that we have from all the hacking going on, but we mostly perceive it because internet stuff is so public that these things would go unnoticed a lot more if they were done offline. So in my opinion an internet vote with all the statistics constantly accesible to all would help preventing any possible manipulation.

I have not formed my opinion on that yet. Whenever there is evidence for manipulations one simply could rely on the phone votings (a method that is not 100% save either) only. In general it should be possible to control ip adresses and pc locations. They should not count votings via open proxies for example.

^ It's all pretty in theory but it's very ugly on practice, unfortunately.
It's hard for one country to deal with hackers and smart*sses, now imagine 40-43 countries. Looool, this would be the biggest fake voting in history

Another change I think they should consider making for the future is perhaps removing the maximum voting limit - if a person wants to vote 100 times and waste their money then I dont see anything wrong with that + it means more money for the broadcasters!

Indeed, it seems to be a risky thing. I do not have the IT-based knowledge to really join in that conversation, methinks. Just on principle, I would be open for modern changes but only as long as they are fair and safe.
