I am so positively surprised that We All Poop's song is not a joke entry or some random amateurish crap! o_O It actually sounds like a less polished alternative to one of my favourite Czech bands I Love You Honey Bunny with some touches of Twenty One Pilots here and there. I love it.

Karelll's problem, in my opinion, is that he should be just a songwriter, not performer. It's cruel to be personal like that, but I really think he doesn't have what it takes to "sell" his work to the audience. The song itself is OK, although formulaic, and some other singer could make it a respectable piece of work. As it is, it will probably end last in the selection.

We All Poop I was hoping I'd like more considering the outrageous band name. I was really expecting some gnarly and punky rock, not very commercial sounding indie pop, but the song is ok.

Karelll's song I don't really have much of an opinion on.

I don't like Wanna Be Like (super monotonous) but I think it could be a good choice for Eurovision. It's done right for the people that enjoy this kind of stuff.

Dark Water, my feelings are mixed. It sounds very much like a ballad made for Eurovision, but it undeniably has its charms and I can soften myself a little for it, but it doesn't excite me.

Pam Rabbit I need you. Deliver please.

I never thought I would say that one day but the Czech NF is at the best level of the session so far. I really liked all the leaked songs.
Czech artists are apparently beginning to understand what Eurovision is.

Tumblr, mostly.
Jan Bors's parting gift.

I don't love the ESCZ entries - They're all credible songs that I would see make their way on radio stations all around Europe, but that's also precisely why I don't love them. I listen to the radio pretty much all day and this is the music I hear (often involuntarily, regardless of what station I tune into). Radio pop don't excite me anymore (especially Wanna Be Like which is a GOOD reggaeton but good god I just cannot stomach reggaeton anymore enough already).

Having said that, damn' this is an impressive selection so far. All of these songs are credible AND good and it's downright astounding that the Czech are able to produce four (and possily more) of them, in different genres, all effortless qualifiers in esc, while countries with huge musical scenes and money such as the UK and Germany struggle with finding even one good song every year. Impressive work, CzechRep, and well done.

WAP is clearly my favorite of the 4. Obviously it is the perfect example of an indie pop radio track, which is exactly why I like it.
I don't have much to say about the others, I'm not totally carried away by Dark Water but I love the chorus. And in all all four are at least enjoyable in their own way.

I was expecting to see a low-tier joke entry from We All Pop, but instead they delivered a pretty cool indie song. "All the Blood" has a very professional sounding actually. Good job, guys.

Looks like Karellll picked the right title for this song. It is truly one of those songs that have no impact on the listener. At least he tried, eh?

"Wanna Be Like" sounds like something our music industry would come with, which is great. I can't help it but I feel that it is a tiny bit cookie-cutterish. Maybe it's because I have heard songs like this one every day in the past decade in my country and it's not a top-tier dance bop. Idk.

As for "Dark Water", it is a pretty nice song overall. Really not very crazy about it, needs more oomph or something. Another song that I could see coming from Romania, and probably flop in online contests.

My ranking:
1. All The Blood
2. Wanna Be Like
3. Dark Water
4. At Least We've Tried

I am happy with our selection already and I think we actually can't go wrong.
  • Benny / Olga would mean a great boost of Eurovision popularity in :cz:.
  • Barbora Mochowa / Pam Rabbit -> vengeance for the last year, yay!
  • Elis & Čis T have a decent song AND we would get to send a Czechoslovak entry, which is an absolute dream of mine
  • We All Poop could prove that you can send quality despite an "outrageous" name
  • I don't see Karelll qualifying and I realise he's generally considered the weakest, but I still think that even if his entry is a mainstream pop, it is a good pop. Besides, there's never enough pianos in the world, the only thing that's better than a man with a piano is a woman with a piano. I am looking at you Barbora :)
Any chance Jan Bors could come back, pretty please?

Confirmation that there will be unplugged versions as well:

http://instagr.am/p/B7gvs_KiQWQ/
According to Escarena.cz, this time each participant will absolve two "media days", in this order:

1 We All Poop
2 Pam Rabbit
3 Barbora Mochowa
4 Karelll
5 Benny Cristo
6 Elis Mraz and Čis T
7 Olga Lounová

Elis and Čis T will be performing "Wanna Be Like" in some Slovak morning TV show tomorrow, so hopefuly we won't have to wait so long to hear their live.

All the songs are out on the official Eurovision app. Wanna Be Like is now called What I Do for some reason.

But the REAL news is that Among White & Black Holes by Barbora Mochowa is one of the most gorgeous pieces of music ever sent to a Eurovision selection. A minute in and I'm obsessed. I think We All Poop are going to win (Twenty One Pilots aren't my cup of tea but I get it) but Czech Rep have blessed us with this national final and all seven have a shot at success in Rotterdam.

1. Barbora Mochowa - White & Black Holes
2. Elis Mraz & Cis T - Wanna Be Like
3. Pam Rabbit - Get Up
4. We All Poop - All The Blood (Positive Song Actually)
5. Benny Cristo - Kemama
6. Olga Lounova - Dark Water
7. Karelll - At Least We've Tried

eta: again apparently it is the APP that's wrong and the original names are correct get it together ebu

Damn, this selection snatched my wig and sent it out of this world. After the drivel that was last year, I never expected to get something as amazing as this selection. Almost all of these entries would qualify with ease and Czechia looks primed for a top 10 finish.

Rankings:

1. "Wanna Be Like" - The song grabs you within the first 5 seconds and never let's up. It's just so vibrant and fun and I love the energy of it. It isn't groundbreaking by any means, but I love a good reggaeton song and this delivers. Plus it'd be hot to have a Czechslovak rep.

Also 1 . "White & Black Holes" - Wow, just wow. I was really skeptical of Barbora because I thought "True Colors" was lame and trite, but, damn, did she ever make me eat my words. This track is just so beautiful and ambient. The wailing at the end is just mesmorizing.

3. "Get Up" - Another contestant that I had no expectations for. I thought Pam's last entry was cringey, but this track just has the right kind of edge. I was a little iffy at first with the verse, but that chorus POPS and make the verses retroactively good, if that makes sense.

4. "Kemama" - I'm not sure what I expected, but this is good too. It's a very good party song, but I have to admit that there's a pretty big gap between Pam and Benny. I do like this quite a bit though.

5. "All the Blood" - This is good in terms of alt indie pop. Not really my thing, but I respect it.

6. "Dark Water" - This is good, but it had sooooo much more potential. The verses are great, but the chorus let's it down a bit. Could pop live though.

7. Karelll's song - This is so obviously the last place, right? Every selection has to have a clunker, but it isn't even that bad of a clunker, just throughly unmemorable in this selection.

The Czech Republic should easily qualify with any if my top 6 and should be really proud of this selection. San Marino and Moldova to pick up the scraps of who doesn't win of those in my top 3 plz
