Yes, been reconfirmed today by Thanasis Tzokos that CyBC and Panik records have an agreement for a talent competition/National final to select the 2024 entry.

The way he spoke, it sounds like it could go on for several weeks. So will it definitely be all together now or something completely new?

Surprised since their internal selection formula since 2018 brought decent results. Maybe Panik records won't be in for '24?

Welp judging by the article date, I wouldn't consider this set in stone.

Their NF will be called "Fame Story".
What a weird name for a talent-show meant to select someone for Eurovision.
I think it's gonna be a hot mess. When countries select an artist like that it just comes across as disingenuous and artificial. And that's obviously not what people have been looking for in their Eurovision songs.

Yeah I really don't get the name either??

Oh I can't wait to watch this one, it'll be interesting

I really hope for something like Ela by Andromache next year. That was my no.1 in 2022. Something similar but with stronger live vocals would be awesome 2024.

Its turning out top be one of my faves from last year! Just a shame it didn't work live-but yeah, something like that being sent again would be super :D

Actually, Fame Story is the greek franchise of Operacion Triunfo. It was first aired on greek TV in 2002 and it was quite successful. As a program i mean, cause most of the participants did not have a significant career. They gave us some of the most legendary reality personalities ever, though. xheart

@CypriotGirl

Fame story was followed by 3 more cycles (Kalomira won cycle 2) with the last one being a flop and then ANT1 TV dropped the franchise.
Now Star Channel as the owner of the rights wants to revive it and they signed a contract with RIK in order to use the show as the selection process for the next representative of Cyprus at ESC. They collaborate with Barking well media, a tv production company, whose owner and CEO, Nikos Koklonis is trully a horrible man with terrible aesthetics (his success story is pretty controversial as well) and i really wish he would have stayed the fuck away from Cyprus , RIK and ESC. xshrug I really hope they will be able to discover a real talent among the aspiring singers who will get cast and that they won't turn it into a trashy reality show completely.

Hm I don’t know. We saw before that talent shows can both succeed or flop heavily at Eurovision. However, stuff like OT (2017), which I watched (this is why I am using that as an example, cause I didn’t watch Fame Story and therefore cannot comment on it) usually relies a lot on the popularity of the personalities of the performers, and less so on the actual skills, let alone the song. So I fear the emphasis might be put on something that doesn’t factor in much in Eurovision at all IF they follow the usual OT formula in the upcoming Fame Story. That said, we found Lena through a casting show (I don’t remember anymore how much they emphasized personality) so I guess even in casting shows like this, stars occasionally align.

I have no doubt that the Nikos Koklonis show and the winner will both be terrible, like his own aesthetics.

Someone has to stop him.

Fame Story appears to be one of the most interesting national Eurovision selection shows. From what I've been reading about the series, I understand that this is a cross between The X Factor and Big Brother; therefore, I see why some viewers are uneasy about this selection process.

I am looking forward to watching the live shows this autumn.

Cyprus: More details revealed about the Eurovision 2024 entry selection show! (Eurovisionfun)
It's Operacion Triunfo/Star Academy/Fame Factory. It's been done before and was Spain's selection show in 2002-2003 and 2018-2019

Last time Cyprus had a NF I hated the winner, however they've also become one of my favourite Eurovision countries in recent years. I'm highly skeptical of the format etc, but optimistic that I might like the outcome.

Fame Story appears to be one of those shows in which the main focus is winning a recording contract (in this case, with Panik Records), and the opportunity to represent Cyprus in ESC is considered to be a bonus.

I think that last time they had a NF everything was more… amateur. Now this idea looks logical and well organised.
