xthink she was runner-up for ESC 2017 internal choice if I remember good?

She would definitely be an interesting choice, hopefully BNT will risk a bit next year :D

I still can't believe Gotina & Luda was in contention of competing on the stage in Kyiv xheat Now THAT I would call daring!

Yeah, but she applied with the English version of it ( https://youtu.be/MYz0m4RE7K4 ), which wasn't good enough, tbh.

Btw in a recent interview ( https://youtu.be/ZibUFTifnZk 13:54 ) she was asked if she's willing to try Eurovision again and she said yes, but didn't specified is it going to be next year or "some time in the future".

Something less clinical and scientifically-tested-to-do-well would be welcome as far as I am concerned.

"If Love Was A Crime" was great, but then it went downhill for some reason. Make Bulgaria great again!

I think they're right to go down this route. They have served us well each year as one of the final sucker punches of the national selection season, so I don't see any reason why they shouldn't add some last-minute excitement again this year. The only issue here is that they may be putting a lot of unnecessary pressure on themselves to have the perfect song. At least they're ambitious!

And now they've said they aren't in it to win it this year. Looking at Eurovision for other purposes. I like it. Too much focus on victory hurts creativity and diversity of song.

This. Don’t know why some countries try radio friendly songs every year. Not many Eurovision songs, apart from a few famous, have ever made it into the top charts of more than two or three countries, including its own home country. But this is why we have Eurovision. I‘d love to hear a variety of different music styles, cultural influences etc.
If I wanted a radio friendly song I‘d turn on the radio! :-)

This!, we had like the most radio and commercial friendly and hit potential ESC top. 3 in years in 2018, yet none of the songs managed to really keep the momentum going after the contest. However I do must say that the top. 2 had local elements in the songs and also the Bulgarian one had (although very subtle).

But I think the problem lays partly on how ESC is marketed before and after the contest, EBU does absolutely nothing to maintain the popularity of certain entries (not even the winner entry), it's like they completely leave the songs to their own destiny after the contest has been held and without the backing of a proper global label and without the proper marketing and push, songs will fail eventually. Yes, we live in a digital era and I guess to some extent viralism works, also ESC reaches a massive public, but without a proper label backing that has all the international channels (radio deals etc.) the songs still struggle even if they have potential and even with the massive following ESC has. It's a shame and lost opportunity, but I see EBU not grasping the issue yet and I don't see them doing it any day soon so with that said, yes it's kinda pointless to aim for radio hits when there is no machinery to help that.

"Toy" was one of the biggest hits and even topped the billboardcharts 3 months after ESC.

You mean the Billboard dance/club chart which means almost nothing and has almost no impact? xshrug

I mean it's better than nothing, but it really doesn't mean anything.

Re: BULGARIA 2019

Yes, I thought it was the normal US Charts. But in the End "Toy"s Bilance was ok.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toy_(song)#Charts

For the winner of the world's largest annual entertainment show with 100mln of viewers and actual potential to become a big viral hit that chart-run is a bit tragic....

Again I blame EBU for having no proper strategy how to translate ESC success into cross-over success and how to build on the momentum the ESC exposure is giving.

Re: BULGARIA 2019

Actually I hear almost no Eurovision song ever on a German radio channel, apart from the tyical classics (Waterloo, Save all your kisses for me, Hold me now or Love shine a light). The only recent song (since 2000 and on) I heard quite often the last years in Germany's radio (on different programmes) was "If I was sorry" by Frans.
I have never herard TOY once on the German radio this year. I think there was "You'll let me walk alone" by Michael Schulte one or two times shortly after the contest but not as much as Frans.

"YLMWA" was played very often since May. Also "No no never", "Cant wait until tonight" and "Me and my guitar" are played sometimes.
