The future of Bulgaria in the contest will be discussed after September this year. There are elections for director of the broadcaster and all possible options towards Eurovision are open at this point.

IMO, if we qualify this year we'll stay for sure no matter what changes are done in the governing body of the broadcaster. But if we don't do it, the situation will be 50:50 and future participation (not only in 2014) will depend on many things and events, which cannot be properly predicted at this point. Normally ESC is set to be priority for BNT even in times of financial crisis for the broadcaster (2 years ago), but as it's obvious now the tank with hope is almost empty and there are and there will be debates whether all this worth any effords, funds, etc..
Afterall we live in time where public money have to be spared and the Eurovision project is the obvious candidate to start with.

Bulgaria of course should participate. Even if Elitsa & Stoyan don't make the final, they should stay. Maybe only if BGN have very serious financial/organizational problems, they could out. Bulgaria don't have many occasions to promote her country/music, so withdraw is senseless way :?

For me Bulgaria holds two of the most scandalous miss qualifiers in recent years at the Eurovision: Poli Genova and Sofi Marinova.

I hope they can have a second chance!

I'm afraid Bulgaria will withdraw :( They've been really mistreated by the biased juries in ESC lately.

However IF you stay, just send a real chalga-pop star finally, you have nothing to loose!

It seems that BNT haven't lost the Eurovision enthusiasm as they are covering and promoting the event like never before. It's positive sign IMO :)

But I'm wondering if this will continue after a possible failure of Elitsa & Stoyan this year...

BNT to lobby and offer the following changes in the rules of Eurovision:

The first is to stop music tourism and restore the old requirement for native language. "Eurovision" was and should be a festival of nations. Enough Anglo-Saxon shows a clock anywhere. With songs of Azerbaijani, Armenian, Georgian, Ukrainian, Greek, Icelandic, etc. would be impossible Russians to represent Armenia, Welsh singer for Cyprus and Swedes to write the lyrics of Norway, Azerbaijan, Spain and many others, counting and receiving support from other countries not because of the quality of the song, but because of the team that introduced her. And when they sing in their native language will somehow bounce from their desire to make themselves of anglo-saxons. For this amendment in the Rules BNT could rely on lobbying and Serbia, Slovakia, Croatia, always sending songs in their native language. And also in the UK, which for years discontents of this universal English-language tune along.

The second change is the countries with bad qualification records in the past 5 years to have chance to qualify easier to the final. This could happen with giving one spot in the Grand final for the best of these group of countries, which hasn't managed to qualify in a certain edition of the contest.

Wow, the words from that article seems like written by myself

Is that BNT's words or some random article in that magazine???

I totally agree with what it says, but the EBU doesn't care... the EURO in EUROvision has long gone... and they are even "deleting" the SONG part... now it's just about who can wail the most for 3 minutes in some dated Swedish penned English language ballad xpuke

The songs are secondary now, and the EURO part comes even further down it seems...

Before the contest the broadcaster said that certain changes have to be made in the rules, without specifiyng but seems that this is what they want to be done. Let's not forget that in all rules of the Bulgarian selections they have this rule: "The song have to be Bulgarian national product". So maybe it's time really to offer this. I suppose more about their future plans about Eurovision will be announced after September, but there is kind of discontent how all is working now.

I think the EBU MUST change the rules, atleast the entries should be product of their own countries... now when countries import their entries (mostly from Sweden) then there's no point any more.

Or if you import a song, at least you have to sing it in your language. Or else there is absolutely no point in this representing of countries. For example what exactly Georgia is representing this year? Don't get me wrong - it's very good song, but does such representation of a country actually worth something? You buy something from Sweden, sing it in English, do well but what then? What they show in this way? There are two options in my opinion:
1.) EBU to make rule changes in order to stimulate the countries to be truly represented with their songs in the full meaning of this (at least the song to be in native language if it's imported).
2.) To get rid from this "representing countries" and Sofi and Nodi to represent themselves, but not their country Georgia, because it's obvious that Swedish song from swedish composer and sung in a different than the native language cannot represent different country than Sweden.

There seems to be things that are not meant to happen more than once. Apparently this is the case with our ranking in the final contest. Thanks primarily to Elitsa & Stoyan who boldly took the challenge, even though they knew it would not be easy. We thank all of you who were with them in these months and who supported them tonight. Unfortunately none of this was not enough and had to drink the bitter cup to the last drop. Thank you very much again!
