Geneva, 18 February 2010 - The European Broadcasting Union* said today the situation of public service broadcasting in Bosnia-Herzegovina is deteriorating dangerously. It called on the country’s Parliamentarians to implement a recent media law and said Bosnia-Herzegovina could be isolated from the rest of Europe because of delays in digitalization.
“A media law in line with European standards came into force on 8 January 2006,” EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre said in a letter to both Houses of Parliament, copied to the joint Presidency and the Prime Minister. “Unfortunately it has not been implemented and is still being obstructed. This is very damaging to public broadcasting in your country, to the interests of your citizens, and to Bosnia-Herzegovina's ambitions to join mainstream Europe.”
Ms Deltenre also said that viewers in Bosnia-Herzegovina would be denied access to the Eurovision Song Contest and to the World Cup if the EBU’s Member in Bosnia-Herzegovina does not begin making substantial repayments of its debt to the Union over the coming months.

they have to pay 250 000 Swiss franks until April 30th if they wanna stray in ESC (according to ESCkaz). So, imo it's not a big problem maybe EBU will give them more time. Or maybe they will take a loan, I hope they won't withdraw because they would have to pay penalties in this case.

The participation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest seems to be in grave danger as the broadcaster is called upon to pay up a substantial amount due until 30th April.
The BHRT debt to the EBU totals nearly 2.9 million CHF (close to 2 million euro) and although such a debt would not be tolerated under normal circumstances, the EBU clearly understands the problems faced by the broadcaster and have been supportive so far. But as no payment has been received to date, they now request that a sum of 250.000 CHF (about 170.000 euro) is paid until 30th April or the broadcaster will be not be allowed to take part in this year's Eurovision Song Contest.
The EBU recently appealed to the B & H House of Parliament and House of Peoples drawing their attention to the problem and asking them to take an active part towards a solution. In the letter, it is made clear that although BHRT received substantial support in the past when considerable debts were written off (post war and up to 2002) this cannot happen again. The EBU state they are willing to resolve the problem through a long term rescheduling but it seems they have not received a valid proposal so far.
Furthermore, unless another 500.000 CHF is paid my mid June, Bosnia and Herzegovina will be barred from receiving any more EBU services and that includes signal for the World Cup. The total balance is due on 31st December 2010.

It was published on official EBU site so it wasn't just a rumor... this means that they want everyone to calm down and end speculations while trying to deal with the debt in the same time.
btw, according to ESC 2010 rules the last day to pay for participation in Eurovision 2010 is April 25th. Obviously Bosnian broadcaster will pay its participation fee until that time, glad to know that they are credible

Vukašin performed @ Macedonian NF tonight.
He didn't impress me that much though he has quite strong vocals that suit pop rock very much, imo

Ahum... pay of this years' fee? Or the depts?
Look... I love Bosnia (& etc) just because they are about the only Balkan country that inspires me at ESC. But let me be clear... no pay, no play! If a country can't pay its' contribution (for whatever the reason), it should retreat from the contest for one or more years untill they can pay the fee again (same goes for every country willing to participate btw. Happened to Ireland as well in the 80's once... we retreated as well).
I'm not a fan of seeing countries gone lost due to the crisis, but the Balkan already has low fees as it is... if they can't even pay those... sorry but than how on earth are you gonna pay for a festival if you should win?
