Isn't on occasion Estonia considered a Nordic country? I think at least musically the Estonians seem to have more in common with Scandinavia than say Slavic Eastern Europe. Linguistically, culturally and historically too... Perhaps the term "Baltoscandia" some Lithuanian professor once coined should be used more...

Anyway, I think Finland's entry brings a contemporary vibe to folklore. Not quite the edginess of Finland's terrific Värttinä, but certainly real quality...

Sweden's Anna Bergendahl boasts arguably my favourite voice in the competition. Pretty unremarkable song as such, but her singing it has a certain something.

Denmark's and Norway's entries are schmaltzy kitsch. Iceland's trashy (the wrong Björk!!!). All exhibits of poor music taste, imo. Kinda disappointing as generally Scandinavia tends to be musically fairly progressive and sophisticated. Though sadly not always your average TV audience... :(

Estonia (if it were included) would be my favourite. Got that indie-pop vibe and is arguably the musically most sophisticated entry this year. I'll be voting for Siren. :)

It's strange, a part of me know the icelandic singer has a great voice and i don't hate the song anyway, but i really can't see it being sucessful at eurovision at all.

Despite the great draw it go, i still predict it to fail to qualify. :?

Estonia has the most sophisticated entry, I have to agree. I like last year's entry as well.

But why “Baltoscandia” when Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania are already grouped into the Baltic States (the Baltics)? Russians always called the area “??????????” /pribaltika/ (meaning “by the Baltic”).

I cannot believe Sweden's winning the poll. If it gets the best result out of all the Nordic countries, I will literally eat a hat (I don't own a hat, I'll buy a cheap one for the occasion).
I really liked that comment....

Yes, Estonia is a northern country but so is Russia, Lithuania and Latvia.
When we talk about the Northern countries, they belong to the Western hemisphere, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark....
