Re: BELGIUM 2020
My mark for our Belgian neighbours this decade is a 4/10.
All the entries I liked came from RTBF (oh surprise!). My darlings are Witloof Bay (who were too ahead of their time tbh) and Blanche (who had a solid song despite not convincing me when performing live). I ended up voting for "With Love Baby" because it was a forward-thinking effort executed flawlessly imo. It wasn't for everyone, but I applaud the risk they took that year.
While I appreciated "Rhythm Inside" for being so out there and impactful back in 2015, it has been fading so much on me that I can hardly enjoy it now. But the package itself remains strong and top 5 material regardless. Also, "What's The Pressure" wasn't really my vibe, but I did enjoy the whole package: for once VRT did something right... xshifty
I divide the rest into three categories:
-"A Matter Of Time" and "Wake Up" were pleasant enough half-baked songs whose full potential was ruined by tasteless stagings and weak performances imo.
-"Love Kills" and "Would You?" were completely forgettable efforts in my book.
-And eventually "Me And My Guitar" and "Mother" that I actively despise and don't want to hear about anymore.
I don't know what VRT could send next year, but I hope they give all they have musically, so that their qualification chances don't heavily rely on their staging skills (which aren't their strong suit). I guess they should leave "City Lights" alone and move on to a brand new formula. Maybe the Dutch hosting the contest will encourage them to work extra hard.
Fingers crossed.
