the problem is not singing live. the problem its that they don't know how to speak english and when they try to sing it, it just comes out as something very weird. in my opinion they should just send something in belarussian (or russian, don't know whats the official) because the poorly english dosen't comeout as english but at the same time its not the native language. if i cant understand what they are saying i rather have a native language.

Oh I totally agree, and thing is when artists doesn't even understand the language they sing it, it all comes around very forced and unnatural and more time is spent on trying to pronounce the words correctly than focusing on singing and performing.

Both Russian and Belarussian are official, however the majority is speaking Russian, partly because the regime has been actively working against Belarussian...

unfortunately that happens with almost every country from the east. Most of them don't know how to speak english, and then are forced to sing something in "english".

Hardly just an "eastern" problem

South Europe isn't that great in English either, heck Central-Europe isn't either ...

Do they really?? I mean as far as I'm concerned Portugal, Spain, Italy and France all tend to send entries in native languages... (well mostly)...

Greece send some opa stuff where the language issues aren't as crucial...

I've not seen much issues with the Ukrainian entries in regarding to English? I mean almost none of those acts are English speakers, but atleast they managed not to sing with much accent like the ones singing in English from Belarus for instance...

It's funny to read criticism about Sanremo in a thread dedicated to a nation that has always sent ugly, ridiculous and unheard songs in this contest.

If there's really a belief like that in the country then I don't want Belarus to have the right to enter

Well... Sorry to say it, but it isn't surprising from them.
They don't live in 2013.

I would say about 1913  It's actually quite shocking they would do that, or think its ok too do that. TBH not many people were happy with Austria's choice but still there is no need for them to petition her removal. They are not doing themselves any favour, and if they are going to be like that then i don't want them in Eurovision.

They're not petitioning to remove her, they're petitioning for BTRC to not broadcast Austria's performance.
Either way, it's obviously absolutely ridiculous and if BTRC actually accepts it, EBU will disqualify them. But I think it's certain that BTRC won't accept the petition.

That then :/ but they must show the entirety of the show, so its either deal with it or withdraw this year. Like you said though, i doubt BTRC will follow through because they will have too withdraw and end up looking like complete mugs.

It's really sad to read something like that. I mean really??? I'm probably one of the very few people who liked most of the Belarusian entries but do they really think that something like this is against "family values" but Alyona performed with a dress which couldn't be shorter? (I hope I found the right words and you understand this :D)
I really hope that there aren't too many people who support this petition. Maybe they should focus more on introducing press freedom and freedom of speech than something riddiculous like this. If they search for "family values" they are probably wrong at the Eurovision Song Contest and should watch another show. And another thing I don't understand. How can they be offended by the performance of Conchita but gave 6 points to Dana International in 2011. That doesn't make sense. I hope that there are at least a few open minded persons who try to create a petition against such censorship.

Today everyone can make some petition for everything and that doesn't mean anything

Thank you! Voice of rationality in this discussion.

Not really sure why everyone are so head over heels for these "news". Firstly we don't even know whether true or gossip, secondly people make petitions daily for different things, it's not the same as the broadcaster actually announcing this.

This "news" seems more like a way of giving Belarus some bad rep instead of something actually newsworthy, I mean there are annual petitions in Sweden (and probably in most countries) by some groups to ban ESC as a whole... does that mean SVT is behind it or most of Sweden? Obviously not, but we don't get "news" about all of these petitions... so actually there's nothing to really react against here imo.

I wonder if this year we'll actually get a winner from the NF that actually takes the song they won with to ESC.
