But making such patriotic (IMO even nationalistic) lyrics rubs me the wrong way and you know a lot of people (and you know I'm not referring to die hard fans but the casual viewers) will just roll their eyes especially lyrics like this coming from Belarus.
I don't care about silly entries like Ireland, Moldova etc but if a country is pushing a certain agenda, I just cannot approve of that.
I've got no problems with patriotism, doesn't turn me off what so ever (although I do have a problem with nazism and stuff like that, but that's another issue).
I think the fact that this song comes from Belarus is what puts people off and not the lyrics itself, which I on one hand understand considering the regime there, on the other hand I think people's prejudices are speaking. Just as much as this song may be political, is the interpretation non-Belarussians put in this song aswell, it really goes both ways.
Well, I know the purpose of this song, but I don't take it too serious, I find it quite amusing (can't say the same for Moldova and Ireland though).
And another aspect of it is the retro-Soviet sound of the song, which makes it kind of fun and stand out.
People had no problem with the revolution song in Slovenian selection, which was also communist-nostalgia, but since it's Belarus then we have to be serious and point fingers.
I think people should not put too much thought into it really, we all know anyways so let's just have "fun with it"
