The song was recorded with ethnic Azeri instruments: kamancha and balaban; it was also decorated with sounds of a variety of local percussion instruments – davul and ghawal. On top of everything the song includes elements of the unique vocal style called mugham.

I just can't look at the "Johan Kronlunddur" without laughing

It's Johan Kronlund! C'mon change it now...

So on a scale, how much do you think this "fits" ethnic Azeri music then? Be honest...

Pff, these "ethnic Azeri instruments" are barely audible and could've easily been Balkan instruments. Or my ears are just getting old. ;)

you don't know how our national instruments really sound, do you?
actually Balkan countries were occupied by the Ottomans for about 500 years and as the Ottomans are Turkic just as we are it isn't surprising that they may sound a bit similar

anyway, they wanted to flatter local eurofans by adding national elements but I am still very furious and I am not going to forgive them

The song is nice, but likewise with Bosnia & Herzegovina. It's another ballad....and really there are many ballads already in the contest that are more interesting to listen to. So it's all a bit meh.

"It's another ballad" should be the motto for this years contest...

about so many things - Swedish composers, English text, a ballad again, using mugham in the background which cheapens it. SOOC

Well, I would agree with the first three things though.

its not that bad actually and its better than 2008

Well THAT'S not a difficult accomplishment

If that's really the best they can offer with local songwriters/composers, then I can totally get why they didn't use any locals after that

But seriously. Azerbaijan has around the equal amount of population as Sweden, yet they can't even find any local songwriter/composer for their "hosting" entry?

Drip Drop demo.
Balaban and her vocals make it live but it's like trying to reanimate a dead body. The title says it all.

A-lister, your concentration on your counrty's songwriters and those silly questions you ask is getting really annoying. Well I don't care about songwriters much (anyway the song itself sounds bad to my ears) though I also wanted a song in Azerbaijani. But you, don't you have anything else to discuss that to leave many posts with each and every of them about the same issue? I don't wanna go offtop around so if you wish to see high-class products of our songwriters/composers let me know I can provide you with that.

Not so impressed. But at least it's not another typical, prefabricated R&B ballad. Sabina has better vocals than previous Azeri representants all together and since it's something different, nice and has oriental instruments in some parts.... 6 points.
