Maybe that is why Conchita has a beard, otherwise no one would be realising she's a drag queen :D

People still talking about her having beard and being a homo, instead of discussing the song?
FFS.. get over it.

Well, it's because song is not that special and videoclip is so weak like made by vhs-camera 15 years ago. This beard is a really, really important part of whole performance and it is talked-about like everything else (e.g. "too much boobs" and "sexist" video from Poland). So I don't get why people can't talk about beard? If this is only a song contest (which maybe should be, but it's not, it's for fun too) Conchita should shave and show all these sceptic they're wrong.

And just to be clear, I'm not against this performance, I think everybody can be whoever he or she wants, but I don't like how Conchita fans (e.g. on YouTube) call everyone, who doesn't like this song, as a homophobic. I guess homophobia is not about guy who dress up like a woman but doesnt't shave. :p This performance has nothing to do with gays.

As I said, viewers give good or bad grades for whole package.

But I hope he'll be on the final, because it is good for a show. Place around 5-10 position would be fair. And rehearsal looks very impressive, I mean the background is amazing and voice too. But there's a chance that grand finale will be without Austria. They decided to take a chance. :)

If you think, this has nothing to do with gays, then you are 100% wrong. Drag artists have always been a central part of the gay culture and of gay emancipation. Because many of those drag characters have been so assimilated to mainstream they have lost their subversive power and have become mere clowns. It's Conchitas beard that takes back this function of reclaiming the right to be different and to be accepted even IF one is different. Thus, you are right - the beard IS an important issue in this. And when people call her monstruous, awful, not normal (like a russion mayor these days), than it is homophobic, cause the critizism is against her/him because he/she challanges the traditional gender roles. And this also is a central point in gay culture and gay self awarness. So... yes: this HAS a lot to do with gays.

But of course, it is not ONLY about gays - being tolerated is something everybody is concerned with. Apart from intolerant People ;)

I feel like Azerbaijan is more supportive of Conchita in general than the rest of former Socialist Eastern European countries.

I don't know how close relations are with neighbouring Iran, but there manly gays are not tolerated, but effeminate gays and transgender people are very much appreciated. Their laws even encourage gay people to undergo gender swapping surgery which goes too far, because gay people don't necessarily are feeling like women, but that's the only way of acceptance in Iran.

When I said that this song/video has nothing to do with gays I don't think I'm 100 proc. wrong, I'm mean this is not a gay anthem like "Same Love" by Macklemore or song with a message like "All The Things She Said" by t.A.T.u. or even "Brokeback Mountain" movie. I prefer this way of opening society minds than shock treatment from Conchita Wurst, because some people could not understand it. Let's face it, his image is controversial and popularity of Conchita Wurst is based on it. And Eurovision has a really strong base of homosexual fans, BUT my point is - not every simple gay person is strongly connected with gay culture which is very often overdone. To be honest, I don't think it's good when gay people like only gay things and you can't tell absolutely NOTHING against this point of view because you're homophobic then. Maybe some people don't like Conchita's acting, but they're okay with gay people like Wentworth Miller from "Prison Break", Ricky Martin or Ellen from U.S. television.

It's just not cricket to say insults to Conchita, because we don't need to be rude, I totally agree. :)

But I can understand people who click on "dislike" button below "Phoenix" video on YouTube, just it. So once again, I totally agree with you about tolerance, I wish Austria good luck, but not everyone has to like it and it doesn't make people homophobic, because this is not a gay on the stage, but guy, who pretend to be girl with surprise on face (when lights come out 40 seconds after he starts to sing :p).

PS: And now, I remember that on Polish press conference some journalist asked Cleo about her "sexist" performance. Isn't Conchita Wurst show sexist also? :)

Conchita is the least sexist drag artist I know.

On youtube there are many drag artists who are cheeky and sexist... like the Alicia Keys cover "Girl on fire" (--> "This boy is a bottom"), which is absolutely obscene and rude and insulting to gays....

Or Sherry Vine is making parodies on youtube of popsongs in a very obscene and sexist way too, which to me is very repelling and not funny....

They are acting like clowns!

Bulgarian Aziz makes absolutely slutty music videos which are all about gay sex and where s/he behaves like a street hooker...

No, Conchita is not sexist, she is just a singer....

Conchita doesn't show female attributes. Where's the naked skin? She doesn't even bulge fake monster boobs under her gown.

She's quite classy. She's not obscene, not insulting like so many other drag artists. She's an angel of tolerance.

Well, the Polish song, it serves basic male stereotypes, so it's sexist - sexy ladies with big chests doing all the work in the household.

Well it's the wrong thread, so I'm keeping it short: but isn't the polish song not kind of a parody of these clichés?

So if we talk this way, I can say that Conchita serves basic homo stereotypes that every gay boy must be less or more female.

And I think it's obvious that in Poland we don't make butter like girl from the video and also we use washing machines NOT buckets. :p

Conchita serves the idea of being what you want without fear. It's not about every gay person, she has a more universal approach.

I've noticed that as well. Many Drag Queens are incredibly vulgar and obscene. Conchita isn't these things, although i've certainly come across people with prejudice using the word "Vulgar" to describe Conchita. From all the interviews and works of hers i've seen, she's an absolute lady. She's witty but not offensive or rude. There are many out there, both inside and outside the gay community that could learn a thing or two from Conchita.

And I'm totally with Conchita here. :)
But I said that not beeing a fan of Austria this year doesn't make any of people homophopic. That's it.
