Come on guys Zeljko Joksimovic will be remembered by me and my family till the rest of our lives. Same for Hari Mata Hari, Regina etc etc ... Russian Babushkas didn't impress me much tbh

Well you're not average viewer obviosuly. :D

How come I'm not? All of them scored very high in Eurovision? Babushka act is good for one time only. I can't imagine anyone putting that song in their ipod. (who knows maybe there are people who listen to it while going to work/school )

In a few years time, at least in the UK, whenever you mention Eurovision the response will be 'Oh is that the one with Lordi and Conchita?'

That's why I don't like Conchita as a winner. No one knows the song, everyone remember the beard...

Posted this in another thread but it also fits in here.

I see it like this. A good song alone may not be enough to win the contest. What you almost certainly need is a good song plus a good hook. Tastes may differ greatly on a big regional scale and on a small individual scale. Every year all entries have their supporters and their contesters (needless to say, not in the same proportion). But not all entries are equally likely to receive points, even after adjusting for the differences in perceived sympathy towards the songs. Here comes ''the hook'' into play. While the spread in taste covers large segments of the field (i.e. the participants in the contest), usually each year only a few benefit from a strong hook. The list of potential winners and eventually the actual winners almost always come from this category. The hook itself may be an overwhelming performance, brilliant staging, a poignant gimmick. Anything that makes an entry stand out from the rest and therefore mobilises the masses to vote.

  • Would have Lordi :fi: 2006 won without the costumes? Doubtful at best.
  • What about Loreen :se: 2012 without the masterful staging? One can only wonder...
  • Or Ruslana :ua: 2004 without the epic choreography? At least it's open to debate.

And then there's this year.
  • Would have Conchita :at: won without the beard? Possibly or even probably not.
  • But does this make it any different from past winners? I don't think so. (see above examples)
  • Is it an unfair advantage? Advatage? Yes. Unfair? Not really, since it doesn't break any rules.
  • Is it morally wrong? Well, personally I wouldn't go into such an ample discussion about such an extensive topic, but since morality is derived from principles defined by society, it certainly is something that can be discussed.

Well even despite the obvious attention-grabbing beard Conchita put in the best performance by miles yesterday - she deserves it massively! And I hope she gets chart success with RLAP

While Conchita is great the song is bland, boring and unnecessarily dramatized.
Doesn't give any feelings listening to it. xshrug

Anyway congrats on the win. :D

I am curious! I wonder what arena will be used, how many participants, what hosts, the stage design, the art design etc.

I hope you guys do a great job! xcheer

I still stick to my opinion that this win was act/hype over song, and it was also a political motivated win. People can say what they want, but had it not been the bearded drag act and supposed "message", this would have not won.

I guess congrats to Austria for winning after all these years and having some success, but to me this is just like when the trolls from Finland won in 2006... masks can help alot.

Then explain why the crowd sang along with Conchita, while hardly make a sound for other performers yesterday?

"rise like my penis...."

Ah, glad I wasn't the only one with that crude thought. I laughed at what my sister said last night, "this would be a great song to sing to a man's erection."

Anyhow, I'm pleased Conchita won this year. Two deserving songs were 'battling it out' for first place. A good year for Eurovision methinks.

Let's be honest. Everyone will remember the dancing grannies and their song or the bearded woman better than Sanna Nielsen or Željko Joksimović. ;) Both acts you mentioned are memorable and will be remembered for years to come. Isn't that the point of festivals?

Of course not!

Maybe yes for children, and for 15+ i guess hat some more mature criteria should exist..

I thought jury was introduced to prevent this...but i was wrong, this horrible ESC jury is here to save certain countries and bury the others..

They don't pay a cent for live vocals and quality of compositions..they are not able to do so actually with their skills and education..that is TRAGIC..

Congrats to Austria. As a country I'm happy that Austria did well and won after so much unsuccessful attempts. When I listened Loreen (2012) and Emmelie de Forest (2013) I really got the feelings that this surely is a winning song which I dont get when I listen the Conchitas song. Eventhough I dont want to judge and have a respect on how she/he looks like I think the way that she/he looks like was crucial on winning Eurovision this year. ( Could you imagine Valentina from San Marino won Eurovision whith Conchitas song. Me and you dobt on this) Anyway congrats once again Austria
