I'm giving my first 12 points of the season much earlier than I thought I would. This will probably end up in my top 5 once all songs are announced

4 points. Could downgrade it soon though. The song is okay, but will get boring. Just too flat. How can you send this when you have a rabbit hole? I will never understand.

I want to have a strong word with Mr Paul Clarke, head of delegation who stated we had 6 potential ESC winners in this national final and is also on the jury panel. You had ONE job

Tumblr, mostly.
The staging idea on Montaigne is actually good. Yes, the song is soulless DNA trash. Thank fuck they try to BREAK THAT SOULLESSNESS BY ADDING IN A MODERN CHOREOGRAPHY, I'd say.

The real issue for me is the lack of overal experience. The make up is off, the costumes minimalistic and Montaigne herself clearly hasn't tried something like this before. If anything, SBS should take a more extreme route and let Montaigne practice her singing and dancing game. If they do this, they'll reach that top 10 again. If not, they'll struggle to even reach the finale.

I have faith that SBS can do this after the staging miracle of Kate Miller-Heidke. A :7: for now.

Me neither. While Rabbit Hole was not my personal favourite, it would have been the best choice. This is just ridiculous.

I can't at Australia going back to DNA. The song is fine (if a bit generic and lacking earnestness), but the staging is not good and was uncomfortable to watch. Maybe it can get streamlined, but not looking like Mr. Mime could help

I'm quite positive about them coming up with new staging. Last year "Zero Gravity" at first looked pretty much like a weird parody of "La Forza" but they managed to rethink it as something original that didn't look ridiculous and emphasised the "zero gravity" aspect.

I'm... fine with this, I guess? Montaigne was my fourth favourite (behind Casey > Didirri > Jaguar) tonight, and while I would've much preferred to see one of those win, it's a decent enough song and has some good staging potential if they change things up.

My general opinion on Don't Break Me is pretty much the same as my opinion on every other DNA song we've sent, i.e. "a bit bland, nice enough, has potential." It reminds me of Sound of Silence in particular, which I didn't think was too outstanding before Eurovision but certainly got elevated at the contest. I'll wait to see what happens in May, but for now... eh. A respectable 6 points. Not bad, but I'm sad about Casey's jury robbery after that blockbuster performance.

Lessons of Love winning, mark my words

This aged well over the course of, uh, 15 minutes.

I remember this 2-page scenario above happening with KMH last year, so I won't cut Australia's chances yet. They're actually strong enough to survive.

Pretty sure not everybody would be happy, but this is a fine winner (this and Rabbit Hole is both my favorite for this selection). Pooled with the other three songs we had from Czech Republic, Albania, and Spain, this is probably the easier one (and the safest, also) to catch some momentum. Australia's best assets will usually be brought later at the Eurovision stage (so it'll be more proper to judge any staging capabilities in May) since I think all the stagings in this year's Australia Decides are faring from bad to okay.

(well Jaguar don't get much points from the Australian public either. We can say she's robbed if she gets like 65 points from the public or so. But nope, that's not what happened.)

Anyone who gives this song more than 8 in the poll is never allowed to call another song “unoriginal” ever again
that's a basic non-argument used mostly by people who, ironically, love a bunch of unoriginal songs anyway. shaj fans had a blast with this word earlier this season even though, you know, fik winner 101.

I love how Montaigne challenges society's beauty standards with her unusual looks. She would be an amazing holder of the Barbara Dex award, perhaps best winner in history. I have been following her music for the past 2 months, and I'm so grateful that my journey with her music has finally been crowned with a victory at Australian NF. Next, we go for Top 5 at ESC final. There are lots of things to fix before that, but we have 3 months. It will be fine.

I understand your point. I admit that Shaj is not a unique nor an innovative song - however what it lacks in creativity, IMO it more than makes up for in power and emotion. Don’t Break Me lacks, in the words of the amazing Jordan-Ravi, “emotional integrity”. Perhaps my mind will be changed if the staging is drastically different in Rotterdam.

and that's an argument i understand and find valid! even if i disagree with it (montaigne really won me over today, i thought her performance was incredible). now, if one's problem is that "wahhhh same producers as always, sounds generic", then one is not wording your grievances articulately and is opening themselves to a Resident Petty Bitch pointing out that this board liked "same old shit that sounds generic" when it was under another flag and another sound lol.

You know, taking conventional oft-used musical elements and mixing them into something captivating (even if not for everyone) or using them in a different way than usual can also be creative and to an extent, original.
