Re: AUSTRALIA 2016

Of course is Delta a rather big name for Australia, but seriously, hasn't she always been pretty boring musically? :?
Australia being such a big country should be able to pick many good, interesting and talented singers instead of having a old star which for me not having that many good hits. If it is her, than I hope I like the song of course, otherwise I am not sure if she is the one for Australia. :/

The fact that Australia is big contury does not have to mean that they have to choose big name...the UK has the best music industry in the world and they are awful at ESC, so..........

It's absolutely what I meant. I mean, Australia has so many inhabitants that they could almost go in the streets of Melbourne and pick someone of the street and do rather well. I am sure there are more unknown singers there with a lot of talent that would love to get a shot on the european market, and ESC might be their way in.

Yep, going to agree with you here - I don't think there's really a need to send a big name in the way that SBS wants to. Delta's had some good songs, and she'd probably do well at Eurovision as long as she didn't send a flop, but she's never really amazed me. She wouldn't be an embarrassment, but I'd rather see us go for an unknown artist with something amazing than a well-known singer trying to further their international career with a generic, serviceable pop ballad (talking in general here).

To be fair, I said largely the same thing about Guy last year, and he ended up pleasantly surprising me with an interesting entry that both represented Australia's popular music and fit in well at Eurovision... but I don't think that'll necessarily be the case with every established artist we could consider sending.

TL;DR: Please prioritise the song above the artist, SBS.

You get brownie points for specifying Melbourne over Sydney. xrunhug

Re: AUSTRALIA 2016

Not any real 'proof', no. The predictions at the moment pretty much hinge on three hints:

  1. Delta's got a schedule gap in May that would allow her to participate
  2. Our HoD said last year that they wanted someone 'bigger than Guy' for 2016, and we don't have many of those
  3. She's currently recording an album
So there are some weak hints towards Delta, and she'd probably be my first guess at the moment, but she's far from confirmed. It's possible that the three hints are connected and lead to her, or it could just be that she's going to have a tour for her new, non-ESC album in May, and that we've either got someone else bigger than Guy or that SBS have just gone back on that.
I would also add the fact that she hasn't outright said No or Not Sure because everybody mentioning her for Eurovision She must have noticed by now.
However that can be explained that maybe she doesn't want to let people down or she doesn't want to loose the free publicity she got from pretty much all ESC sights.

And to avoid making this an exclusively Delta Goodrem topic here is an interesting interview from Anja Nissen:

Re: AUSTRALIA 2016

I figured I'd give a summary of the rumour mill, considering how sparse actual information is right now:

Delta Goodrem is still the most talked-about name, despite having little concrete evidence behind her. However, she's recording something new, left a musical she's been touring with to clear up some space in April and May, and has had some vaguely-worded, quickly-deleted tweets as of late.

Dannii Minogue has been mentioned once or twice lately, due to her recent announcement that she's quitting as a judge of the X Factor Australia in order to 'pursue new and exciting projects'.

Finally, The Veronicas have been quiet lately but recently posted some photos of a studio recording, have space in their schedules, and indicated last year that they'd be quite interested in going to Eurovision if they got the chance.

All three acts are reasonably well-known, they've got some kind of vague evidence behind them, and to my knowledge they're all managed by Sony Music, who I heard have been working closely with SBS for the last year-and-a-bit on our Eurovision debut, providing funding and so on. I wouldn't be surprised by any of these three artists being announced (though Dannii thankfully seems less likely than the other two), but there's still nothing substantial here - we could still end up with a complete unknown, or someone who was just off the radar up to this point. Figured I'd give a short recap of the rumours I've seen, though!

Maybe it's "OT" but how is Karise Eden doing these days? Is she still on someone's scope? I found her voice highly impressive and wouldn't mind her at all to join the ESC one day.

Re: AUSTRALIA 2016

The SBS Eurovision twitter account just updated its logo and profile picture - hopefully this means they're getting back into action and ready to give us an announcement?
