The Albanian entry Suus will be sung in the Albanian languge at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku. Esctoday.com is happy to get this exclusive new from the Albanian representative Rona Nishliu. We also had the opportunity to have chat with the Albanian hopeful singer.
Who is Rona Nishliu? Can you tell us something about yourself?
I am a 25 year old Albanian musician. I also finished my studies at the American University in Kosovo in Business Administration and Management. I have a daily engagement as a radio host, at two radio shows through which I intend to support cultural activities in my country. One day I plan to open a charity club that will help people with autism. My favourite food is traditional dish “Tava with onion”.
Back in December you won the strong competition of the 50th edition of the Albanian nation festival, Festivali i Këngës. Besides that, you also won another important award, best interpretation. How do you feel it about it?
It’s been a crazy time for me. I’ve passed through numerous and colourful emotions. This is the most important achievement in my music career so far and I’m enjoying myself.
You were the only one singer from Kosovo who take part this year in Festivali i Këngës 50. How did the idea come up to take part? Was the Eurovision Song Contest also reason to participate at Festivali i Këngës?
It was the 50th anniversary of the National Song Festival. I thought that it was crucial for me as an artist to give a contribution that would include original and spiritual work. Suus is a Latin word that means “personal”. The lyrics refer to an emotional condition while reflecting for the things that happened in the past and expectations of unsure tomorrows.
The winning songs of Festivali i Këngës have usually been revamped and shortened to 3 min. What about Suus?
We are now for more than 2 weeks in the United States of America, where we had the opportunity to record the song at the prestigious music studios in Los Angeles. We recorded the song at the Ocean Way Recording and Capitol Records in Los Angeles and the mastering of the song we did at Sterling sound studio New York. The song has been shortened into 3minutes in order to meet the Eurovision Song Contest..
Six of eight Albanian songs at the Eurovision Song Contest have been translated and performed in English. In which language you prefer to sing at Eurovision 2012 in Baku? Did you already make this decision?
It’s confirmed now. I will sing my entry at the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, in my beautiful mother tongue, Albanian.
When are you going to publish the final version of Suus?
We are still in USA, where I have been invited and welcomed by the Albanian community in the USA. I also had the opportunity to have some professional pictures taken by a famous Albanian photographer in New York, which will be used as promotional material. We will publish our Eurovision entry when we are ready..
Do you have a message for the readers of esctoday.com?
I would like to thank everyone that is supporting me continuously, though I’ll be looking forward to give a significant performance that would represent my country at its finest.
