2016 European Men's Handball Championship in Poland

We won our first match in the second round against with 29:19 goals

I didn't expect us to be so dominant.
Our defense work is brillant.. only 21 goals conceded against Slovenia and 19 today... however, I couldn't understand why Hungary didn't use their wings but only tried to play through the centre which was more ore less a "mission impossible" cause our defense is like a chain of steel. Also our goalkeepers do a fantastic job and one of our big advantage is that we have a very solid second string... we can substitute many players but still play at the same level. In the second half we exchanged a lot so the best players could save their power for the important matches against Russia and Denmark
Handball tournaments are kinda unpredictable cause a team can always have a bad or unlucky day and fail surprisingly. Thats why I can't say we will beat Russia easily. It will be a tough match but if we play like tonight we don't have to be worried.

I pretty much expected that we are going to lose against France. From the footage that I have seen, our players seemed totally clueless as to what to do when attacking, they tried forcing their way towards opponent´s goals instead of playing more patiently. Our defense was like non existent. Even though we still have a chance to pass, I really don´t think that we will stand any chance against Poland. (Norway surprised me with their win over Poland BTW).



P.S. German fans almost had a heart attack tonight.

not only heart attack, I totally rampaged during the match basically because of referee decisions. We would have won comfortably if the referees didn't make the match exciting... However, despite them trying everything to make Russia win we kept our nerves and still beat the strong side of Russia. We can be proud of this young team (youngest team in the Euro). Now we have a crucial match against Denmark on Wednesday and if we somehow manage to win we will be in Semi Final. If we beat them with +3 goals we could even climb on 1st place. To be honest, that's just a nice dream. Probably Denmark will be too strong for us. Our keepers need to play their best and our attack be clinical as hell to have a chance to win this match. The exhausting match yesterday has taken its toll since two of our important players are injured and it's not sure if they can play against DK.
I remember that we drew with Denmark in World Cup 2015 but that was our best team and now there are missing too many players. Moreover Denmark is even stronger than last year... the second half against Spain was fairly impressing
Anyway, in worst case we will be 6th place and this is still our best Euro result after 2008.

That is a great day for German handball

I don't know how many of our best players were missing.. 4 or 5.. it is actually a second string side.. but it doesnt matter who is standing on the pitch cause everybody played his best. what a wonderful team performance. Also big thanks to our coach Dagur Sigurdsson. One could hardly imagine a better coach

Fair enough, the mode is shitty... how is it possible that Denmark has to play two matches within 20 hours while we had a longer break. I understand if people from Denmark are mad on this but nevermind, it doesn't make our performance less amazing

but actually, Norway winning against France is still a bigger sensation... even with +5 goals where does this quality of Norway coming from? They failed against a weak Iceland side on match day 1 but since then they are like a different bunch of players

CRAZY championship!

Norway - Germany and Spain - Croatia in the semifinals! I would probably guessed Spain, but the other three is pretty surprising, especially Norway!
And thanks to Spain and Germany, Sweden is going to olympic qualification! Really good for our young team!

Well... I didn't expect to write this tonight but nevermind.. congrats what a collapse of the host team ... they could have even lost with 4 goals and would have still made it to the Semis but they messed it up. On the other hand Croatia saw their chance and took it like a worldclass team. Between 30th and 45th minute everything their tried worked out and I dont remember that they even missed a chance in that phase

I hoped that France would reach the SF cause if they made it to the Final and our team as well we would have been automatically qualified for Rio... but now since France is knocked out we not only have to be finalist but we have to win the tournament.
In Semi Final everything is possible so ofc I believe that we Germans can win it now. We can't lose anymore, the whole tournament has been a success for us so we play without pressure. Auf geht's Deutschland!

However, I predict Croatia to win it cause now they have a strong momentum and boost of self confidence after the legendary match tonight.

I can´t even find the proper words. Fascination. Trance. Delirium. Etc, etc.

If someone told me what the outcome would be, I would just laugh and say: " Man, you live in a fairytale"!

Before and during the championship, I had totally low opinion of our team. Throughout the last few years our results were just okay, and nothing remarkable.
We were going downhill, all of our veterans left the team, we got a lot of new players, and a new coach (of whom I know nothing about). I thought that this whole thing will be just another disaster.

This is the first time in who knows how many matches that our players actually left their heart and soul on the field. And I really HAVE NOT expected that (Heck, I even said that and would qualify from this group).

It would be a shame if we don´t use this momentum to reach the final at least, but regardless of the final result, this is the first time in a long, long time that I am proud of our team! We played sloppily in previous matches and might even lose against , but tonight we finally played as a TEAM!

No, we are not.
You were better than us from the very first minute, that was such an important match and our worst match of the tournament and one of our weakest match in the past few years unfortunately. I couldn't watch it. Our players had no idea how to play, we had NO tactics and your defense was very strong unike ours.
We didn't deserve to play in semifinals.

Funny, but when we defeated France so easily I really thought we are going to reach the final...
