Funny, I was surfing online on some Italian magazines to see the reactions to the songs of the festival. I'm always interested in reading the opinions of RollingStone because, often considering themselves the greatest connoisseurs of music, they are not afraid to destroy a singer with their reviews. Historically, the participants of Sanremo collect even more venom.
I was surprised by the mostly positive reviews. I agree with them when they talk about Lucio Corsi as the moral winner of the festival. He brought old school music in a modern key and brought out his talent. He also got the choice of the cover night right. Well... if the EBU wants to make a decent film they could choose Lucio Corsi as the protagonist. A boy who
is self-made and showing up with a message and a rebellious look Glam Rock of the early days... is the romantic representation of the boy who starts from his bedroom with posters of his heroes hanging and reaches the top.
Another surprise for RollingStone is Joan Thiele and... they are right. She brought a very international song to the competition.
Giorgia also convinced a lot, managing to redeem herself from the unconvincing previous participation in Sanremo.
Olly, we come to the champion, she is seen as a solid choice. I can't help but agree with him. For me he will make a solid ESC and bring quality where songs like "Espresso Macchiato" take away credibility from the contest. I can see him going down the road of Slimane or Cornelia Jakobs.
I exchanged some impressions with an Italian friend of mine and he told me that in Italy now there is a wave of post-festival poison. In fact, this festival, a festival where there was no declared and superior winner, has created divisions in the public. He also told me about furious criticism for Ranieri's low ranking. It makes me understand that the festival this year had a lot of quality and was not weak at all. We also saw different musical genres and quite experimental for theatrical realities like Sanremo. Obviously the winner is Pop but it was presented in many shades.
I will anxiously await Sanremo 2026 hoping for the presence of Gabry Ponte
