I was 12 in 2003, and thought the Austrian entry was hilarious (still do!) so the theory works, although I have more nostalgia for the year prior, which was the first Eurovision I saw. My favourite year is 2008, for both ESC and EDC.

The Austrian entry in Riga is my genuine first memory of Eurovision, my life was changed forever after that performance

Wow, I've just found this topic and this is partially true for me actually!
I was 12 in 2002 when Maria Naumova won and I remember myself cheering for her, I was so impressed by the staging! That was also the first ESC year I fully remember.
But the most special year for me was 2006 when I was 16, due to the lady that was supposed to win and came 9th in the end. She had and still has a huge influence on me.
