Wasn't this the outcome of the last time something like a NF/sending new talents worked out for the UK?

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

Afaik with Katie Melua was that she offered her song far too late, the NF plans etc were all well under way and there was no real way of going back to select it, but the BBC cocked up because they didn't get Petes song until right before the NF. I suppose they could have dropped it all, but I imagine they had already made agreements and spent money. With Hurts, the negotiations broke down because the BBC wanted an 'old legend' or a reality star to sing the song and not them, but Hurts refused as it is their song - and rightfully so. Also in 2012, Pixie Lott was in the running to be selected but the HoD vetoed her. IMO 2012 was a far bigger disaster for what the BBC did than in 2010. Although both were a total mess for the BBC. Also keep in mind our HoD and eurovision team changed in 2014, so who we have now is different from those years.

With Paloma Faith tbh I don't really believe she would do it if it came to it and she was asked. It was probably a case of "Oh yes, i'd love to!" just to get a lot of publicity for new single/album across the entire eurovision fan community.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

It’s great that they host it outside of London this time! :)

It’s really time to have successful UK entry….I'd like to see band representing it.. :)

Some pop rock would be nice too.. :)

Or Sam Smith at least..hihihihihi.. :D

His attempt this year, not half bad actually, an improvement on his previous 2 attempts.

Also this twitter page is claiming we will have a scoreboard this year (which would mean we'd see a voting breakdown for the first time ever). I had noticed this twitter page before dropping spoilers and stuff, but I didn't want to post about it in case it was all fake - however they posted Brighton would be the hist city of our NF before it was officially announced, albeit with the wrong day. There is also a tweet that were asked to delete which was about some wildcard vote or something.

I'd be shocked if it was anywhere near sold out yet. Smaller venue, I know, but they didn't get close to selling out the last two years in London on a Friday.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

Anyone else 100% convinced that Steps are in the UK final?

They have no live performances from the 3rd of February til the 26th of May too...

I have a feeling that the rumours saying "The BBC wanted to cancel the NF because they found the perfect song" could have been because Steps want to do it

Don't mind if Steps are in it , but no divine right to be the representatives. I hope there is some serious competition to cheesy dated pop.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

I like steps music from when they were actually relevant, but they're among the last I actually want for us in Eurovision. Maybe in 2000ish but not now. I've heard better submitted songs than what they have now.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

I think Steps are for the UK what Alcazar are for Sweden. I feel they are dated but could either do amazingly well or flop. The likelihood is that they would flop but I would rather take the risk if the alternative was something like Joe & Jake (something safe but not safe).

I always think risks are a good thing in eurovision. Lena could have flopped. Lordi could have flopped. etc.

I'm just annoyed that we don't do well anymore haha

AshleyWright I can't believe what I've just read - Steps are still awesome, their new album is amazing and their Party on the Dancefloor tour was easily Top 5 of all gigs I've ever been to. I don't necessarily want them representing us at Eurovision, but they have an incredible knack for finding the perfect hook that's for sure ;)

I don't think they're bad per se, It's just that I don't think Europe would take their brand and style of pop as a serious entry, and from the UK that is a disaster. I think we would be better off sending more unknown artists with more current styles of music (not that I really love modern music so so much) I just think it would be what does best for us.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

Just been listening to some great songs that have missed out for the UK over the years. Could we please have nothing theatrical, jokey, gimmicky, tuneless, an aging last chance performer, a reality show failure, and/or rap and I just might get behind the entry for a change.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2018

Thoughts on this then all?

Looks like there may a few more alternative choices in there this year if it's true so I'm hoping the songs can match this!
