I guess I'm the only one who thought commentary was garbage tonight? Mel had a few good jokes, but generally was terrible. Scott is always terrible, so I accept that now. Once again they spend the whole time taking the piss with terrible jokes that have nothing to do with the song or act and basically say everything sucks. For a broadcast that is mainly watched by ESC fans on BBC Three, you would think they would cater to the audience a bit more.

I just wish the BBC would take it seriously instead of putting in the minimum effort and just grab ratings.

I'm all for Sue Perkins though. Sue and Mel together would probably work a lot better.

So of course eurovision songs are now starting to chart across europe, and how many are charting in the UK? 1. which is our own entry.

The commentary is the best bit about a semi final. You need to have that humour involved, it engages people. I love the ESC, but I love the British comedy commentary that goes hand in hand with it also. All my opinion though ofc

Unpopular opinion but I actually quite liked the women (Lauren Laverne?) that did it last year. Indifferent towards Scott but he seems willing to put the time in to do a competent job which tbf is probably hard for the BBC to find.

Thought that Mel felt like she had to say something in every empty space, even if it was just 'I like that' or 'yes', which to me isn't what the commentary should be. But overall she was OK and I think adding Sue might help make it more...interesting :)

Anybody else get the sinking feeling if Electro Velvet draw first half tomorrow their guaranteed to open the show :?

I'll be saying a small prayer everyday it's Sweden, and then worst case we're 13th...Since the alternative is to put Sweden 13th (like last year) and the UK 1st (like 3 years ago)...

I thought Mel was absolutely wonderful. She made me burst out laughing at a couple of points and her little cake shop sketch was funny (her and Daniel were so sweet together). It was the right kind of humour I think. She could joke around but she's nothing but a warm and lovely person and that came across when she'd comment. To be honest, I wish she was our main host. I'd much prefer her over Graham.

Scott was his usual self but I don't think he actually managed to offend me tonight. Instead it was Dr Eurovision who annoyed me at the end of the show by calling Albania's song an awful dirge. He obviously doesn't know the meaning of the word dirge. I wouldn't apply it to something so uplifting and empowering.

Would they do that? Didn't the Hump open in 2012? Would be cruel to do that again so soon.

Seems the UK performance isn't better according to Press Centre reports.

We're next though. Watch us draw first half, and then watch France & Australia draw the last 2 second halfs.

ARGH FIRST HALF.

The only good thing is that all strong ones are in the second half.
