I’ve been a Eurofan since 2000. Now, at 36, my first Eurovision memories are from Spain’s golden years: David Civera (2001), Rosa (2002), and Beth (2003). Those were modern hits that topped the charts. But after that era ended, Spain’s musical performance started declining, with very few exceptions—something we’re still stuck in today.
It’s frustrating that a country with such a rich musical culture is reduced to reggaeton, trap, or mainstream pop. Spain has many regional languages with incredible music that deserves a chance in Eurovision. But we tend to sabotage ourselves—just look at Tanxugueiras’ controversy in Benidorm Fest, which surely discouraged other artists.
This year, the selection got out of control. The process isn’t working—we shouldn’t pick based on nostalgia or “who deserves it.” It’s about the best song. This Benidorm Fest lacked strong entries, but options like VIP or UNANA might have at least scored three digits—not a total disaster.
The revamp drops at 21:40 today. I’ve never been a big fan of Melody, but she’s our representative, so I’ll support her. Hopefully, it improves.
I am also curious to know if your score in the poll is will change after the new version is released, so feel free to share it with us if you fancy. My initial score was a 5/12, so I really want to upgrade it to 8. Or will it end up to be a 3/12???
Also, for those who think Spain is just party music—check Spotify’s Local Pulse charts. There’s amazing music from Catalonia, the Basque Country, Galicia, and beyond. Spain has so much more to offer.
Good luck Melody. Maybe haters will be less haters after today
