Please don't let it be a visual mess xpray
That's the only thing that could make us miss the final IMHO.

that's what I fear even more now, after seeing the below-average (for eurovision standards) camera work in the 1st semi xgaah
they did a good job with estonia though and they are probably the most similar, visually, so xcrossed

I wish rtvslo would broadcast a dual audio stream. One with the commentator and one without. jesus i find him annoying.. but I want to watch it on tv, with family cause only that gives me the proper, traditional esc experience.. but hofer ruins it with his over enunciating and moronic remarks (like for the danish guys being young "i doubt they ever paid a single bill themselves" LOL and he says that for the danish..who are miles ahead of our 19yo's when it comes to being independent)

Guys, don't worry about Slovenia's camera work/screening. Most of the shots Maraaya has are from close up, so... Most likely we won't see flags etc. But I do agree that ESC shows have lost some quality over the last few years. Moscow 2009 and Düsseldorf 2011 are still the best shows by far, although that Swedish flop in 2013 will not be that easily forgotten. Imo, that was far worst ESC show in the last 20 years.

The past two years, my 2nd favorite in the contest has performed 2nd in the 2nd semifinal and has missed out on qualification; since Maraaya are performing second(-to-last), I'm worried that the curse may continue, so I'll actually be happy as long as they qualify.

Don't worry, dear, Maraaya are here for you to fix your "curse" problem. :)

Tell me about it. RTP hired an idiot as the commentator this year. The backlash against was huge though and hopefully they'll replace him, or just let the other commentator alone. If they don't I'm plugging the PC to the television and watch it with no commentary with my family :D

I'm worried, because we normally have crappy staging and camera work. I really hope that the lighting will look good, because some songs from the first semi looked horrible, everything was too flashy. The only thing that was worse was the artificial smoke, because from some shots you could barely see the singers.

Also while Hofer at times makes stupid remarks, there is no way he'll be able to beat Terry Wogan when it comes to that.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow. This is my 2nd favorite from this year.

I´m only hoping that her vocals will be strong. I know that everything else is going to be fine.

Except mayhap the dress? Still not convinced by it myself!

*sigh*...honestly, who cares about dress or whatever the heck the participants are wearing?

Its not like the dress is going to sing for her or something.

Indeed, but it's about the performance as well as the vocals, otherwise what on earth is the point of watching it? Why not just listen to it on the radio and forget all the expensive staging? She will be judged on every aspect of the performance she gives and that includes her outfit. If her dress doesn't matter, why not just have her in t-shirt and jeans or something?

ADDENDUM: But I'll agree that the voice is the most important aspect! It is just not the only one.

Well, of course that contestants need to dress up nicely instead of showing up on stage butt-naked, but I think that people are really taking it too far and inspecting all the clothes in every detail. I think that that is really unnecessary and waste of time. I don´t have a single problem with what Marjetka is wearing and I never actually took notice of it. To me, she looks just fine.

In Trijntje's case it counted a lot.
The bad staging, slow camera work and her just standing there like her feet are glued to the floor were the main reasons why she didn't qualify. I still can't believe that the same person who directed Calm after the storm also directed her performance. It simply was a mess and it didn't suit the song at all...

In addition to the dress(es), which also created a lot of negative reaction. But of course you are right, it wasn't the dress alone, the entire performance was a mess. Only her vocals stood out a bit. I hope Maraaya have a better idea about how to play to the strengths of their song.

Yep, same view here. The clothes had nothing to do with it.

i like hofer's remarks....my problem with him is that he seems so bored!

RTV should hire a hardcore fan to be a commentator...like myself!

I know right? Last year he made the best performance, and this year he made what will probably be the worst performance of all.

But he is mean on purpose, while Hofer just tries to be funny and fails. Constantly. :D Or maybe I'm just not on his patronizing humor wavelength.

I think there's a big variety in why some performances are more likable than others, it really depends on a person. Sure, the song and the singing. But I found myself being really affected by the facial expressions yesterday. I had Denmark & Netherlands & Serbia in the same "nice songs" pot before the show, but the danish boy kept having that extremely punchable face while singing and Trinjtje looked evil. So I didn't really look forward to seeing them again if they qualified and I was happy Serbia did instead.

I have to say, this really works on camera which helps the lack of movement. It has a lot of energy on screen which I’m pleased about and Marjetka gives 'good face'. One of my worries were the camera angles for this and they’ve kept it very tight on the stage. Hopefully this will be a breakout song tomorrow as it’s a really good contemporary song.
