Re: SERBIA 2018
To Mrm with love from Rainy
Love
Jača od svih - Lana i Aldo I like this partly for the wrong reasons as it's very WTF and brought a big smile to my face. That melody! What is it even trying to be!? Iconic. I need to see the live performance. I was living for the entire 3 minutes. Slay me Lana i Aldo.
Hajde da igramo sada – Sevdah bejbi Wooo super duper funky. This takes me on a bubblegum trip. I really like it's groove.
Nema te – Rambo Amadeus i Beti Đorđević Woah I wasn't expecting such a moody jazz number. Beti Đorđević's vocals are absolutely wonderful. This would look super classy in Lisbon. Rambo's spoken word section whilst Beti is scat singing... my body slayed. This is awesome. Love nocturnal sounding jazz.
Pesma za tebe - Saška Janks Soulful, classic sounding number that stands out. The verses really appeal to me,
but the whole thing hasn't quite got me on board yet, but I think with time I could grow to fully love this. One to watch. Ok, that was quick. Two listens was all I needed to fall in love. This is gorgeous. Flute part is a bit questionable for me, but I think people will be charmed by it and somehow it adds a Serbian touch to what is quite a Western sounding composition.
Like
Bar da znam – Srđan i Emil Quite charming and strangely catchy, and rock guitar solo
Zemlja čuda - Maja Nikolić Sofi Marinova meets Elitsa & Stoyan. Eurovision needs songs like this and this has potential to be epic in Lisbon
Performance could make me fall in love.
Umoran - Rejbass So mysterious. Those deep vocals took me by surprise. A very strange song but I enjoyed it. Would be utterly bizarre to see it at Eurovision.
Samo nek se okreće - Lord I LOVE the instrumental part. Super delightful. Hmmm but rest of the song didn't grab me in the same way. I think this is a grower.
Pretty ok
Nova deca - Sanja Ilić i Balkanika Interesting. I like the mixture of ethnic and
trashy delicious club beats. Only problem is I felt like it was missing a decent refrain or hook. I enjoyed my 3 minutes with it but then remembered nothing.
Ni sunca ni meseca - Ivan Kurtić Nothing to complain about here, but didn't get me excited. Nice voice though.
Pod krošnjom bagrema – Dušan Svilar Nice music and again another good voice. Feels very typical but still enjoyable.
Ruža sudbine – Danijel Pavlović Another extremely typical Balkan ballad. Has a nice bridge section, and probably the best pay off of the three ballads i've just talked about.
Probudi se - Osmi vazduh i Drugari I was confused as this was playing. This NF is... bizarre..... in a good way. I like the 80s synth pop thing it's got going on. Nowhere near as good as "Hajde da igramo sada" though. That one does the retro thing much better.
Vila - Boris Režak Bless this sprightly little number. It's kind of cute. Perhaps has the power to annoy after a while.
Mixed feelings
Beži od mene - Igor Lazarević No surprises but pleasant balkan ballad. Didn't come close to wowing me though.
Zato - Koktel Balkan Nice melody in the verses but chorus was a let down. As a song it's inoffensive to me but you can do better.
Svatovi – Biber I DJ Niko Bravo This song is melded together in quite a weird way. That first chorus just arrives and it's jarring. Song is certainly ok. Maybe a grower but right now i'm not that into it.
Congratulations, you have a 17 song NF where not a single one of the songs managed to offend me. That's nothing but a miracle, all things considered. My opinion is that Saška Janks is Lisbon ready. "Pesma za tebe" is beautiful and will do all the talking needed to reach the final. If she's good live then simple, classy staging would make you stand out with this song. Rambo Amadeus and Beti Đorđević's "Nema te" is a big risk of an entry that I wouldn't rule out actually paying off for you if you sent it. It's very high quality and unique, but also strange. If there's one year for an entry like this to shine then it's going to be this one in Lisbon. I've no idea how Sevdah bejbi would do, but damn that song is cool. Lana i Aldo's "Jača od svih" is basically me trying to sabotage you
But it's probably actually my legit favourite because sometimes I just need to unleash my legendary
train crashing into a river side. The song is just so fabulous that I cannot resist it.
Queen Lana i Aldo for Lisbon! Go the Serbia.
Everyone aboard the "Jača od svih" hype train. Chooo choooo.
