Re: Pacific States - WV110 ☂ Tamara Gee - How About That

That tamara banner at the top and lyrics with extra emphasis. xheart xheat good luck changing the world. xbow xbow

Thank youxheart I had to write the lyrics down myself as I couldn’t find them on the interwebs. Hopefully I got them right. Emphasis is of course needed for the bridge and final chorus of the song. You have to write it with the same gusto Tamara possesses when she performs the song.

FTFY xheat

What an entry. Beautiful performance by Ms Tamara Gee. xheart xheat xheat

Thank you so much. As an added bonus please enjoy this beautiful performance of a recent Canadian WorldVision entry.

Thank youxheart I like a good healthy shock entry from time to time (not that it is probably hard to imagine me going crazy for a song like this in a Eurovision selection). It was the right moment to send Tamara. I’ve been craving a really poppy entry for a while now, and had planned actually to send a different favourite pop queen from my childhood, but she just WILL NOT release her new stuff, and I couldn’t wait any longer.

I can now also say I’ve sent a Eurovision artist to WorldVisionxheat Inescapable, even playing with American regions. A fun fact as well I didn’t know is that How About That is written by the same guy that did some of Agnes’ big hits like Release Me. No wonder it is so delicious.

A beautiful result for the beautiful Ms. Tamara Gee. Besides that recent sweet victory, my best result of the year so far. Especially pleased to get 12s from Ashley, Fabi and Calvin (what a trioxheat). I won't wait so long next time to give you some more pop entries, even if I find it kind of difficult sourcing stuff to suit that side of my taste from the states. Thanks for all the support you gave to Ms. Geexheartx

I haven't much thought about what to send to WV111 yet, so I better get to thinking now. I don't really know what kind of entry mood I'm in.

Re: Pacific States - WV111 ☂ The Silent Comedy - All Saints Day

WDh4LE3.png

I ain’t no demon, Lord
Look to me please
The good men are sufferin’
With the evil at ease
Millions of innocents
Are born to disease
Where is our solace, Lord?
Oh Lord answer me

I look to your people, Lord
But they’re being cruel
They sleep with the criminals
That they aim to recruit
They raise in their stadiums
A poisonous brood
I think they would crucify
Oh someone like you

One day, will this be over?
Will this be over?
Will this be over?

I ain’t no demon, Lord
But neither are you

The Silent Comedy are a usually hat wearing four piece rock band from San Diego, California. They've been going since 2006 and specialise in a roots kind of rock and roll that I guess you could class as Americana, a style which incorporates elements of rock, blues, folk and country music. The moody All Saints Day is from their 2010 album, Common Faults. The band came to my attention after this very song was used in a trailer for the original Dark Souls video game. All Saints Day is a slow burner, brooding for some time before the ground beneath it eventually splits for that gargantuan finale.

This is my second best result of 2019 so far, and I'm really pleased. It was always my wish for this song to do well when I'd eventually send it, but I didn't think it would go top 10, especially on this very well received edition that so many enjoyed. The brutally hard and unforgiving Dark Souls is one of my all time favourite video game series, and I've got to thank the game for also introducing me to The Silent Comedy. Even though the piece of music was never actually used in the game itself, it's been something that always comes to mind when I think of Dark Souls. It's stuck with me still even after all these years. I kind of regret a bit my laziness, as I always planned to make a music video for when I sent All Saints Day, but I just haven't had the energy or inspiration these past few months to do it, but eh.. the song matters most and I'm really happy you enjoyed it, and that I can add The Silent Comedy to the successful pile of my WorldVision rock artists/bands. Thank youxheart

I'm very unsure on what to do for next edition, yet again. It's probably going to be very spontaneous once more.

I'll reveal some plans though I've got for over the next few editions.

- Halloween NF is coming this October to steal your souls and suck your blood. I've wanted to do one for a long while.

- Icons NF: Pacific States edition. I did one of these to celebrate my 50th edition, but I was limited at the time to Mid-Atlantic States artists. A Pacific States version was a given eventually, and I think the right time is approaching. Think of all them Pacific States artists and bands I could bring backxheat Choosing who makes the NF will be so hard.

- King Tuff is one of my favourite artists I haven't shared yet. I've been putting him off for a while cause his 2018 album meant a lot to me, and I wasn't in the right frame of mind to share him then, but he needs to be part of my WorldVision history. I might do him by way of a small three song NF. I need you to hear my psychedelic rock wizard.

The Halloween NF is a very nice idea, not sure if anybody did this before. xheat

The Icons NF will probably hit-or-miss for me, then again your Pacific States artist I tend to like more than your Mid-Atlantic ones so I guess I would appreciate most of the selection. I am curios to see what you will offer us.

whiteshoes I haven't decided yet on the lineup for the Pacific States Icons NF, and I will probably try to balance the genres out so that there's hopefully something for everyone. I'd say though that Judee Sill and John Cale at least have a very good chance of returning, along with Ariel Pink and Sir Sly (if I don't send them internally again before then). The only thing I'm probably going to avoid specifically is placing my winners into the NF, as much as I'd be quite happy to share Weyes Blood with you a million times. She's had her moment now and I don't want to spoil it. The biggest question mark of all is whether Mikal Cronin will be there. He should technically absolutely be in any icons NF I do (and he just announced his new album tooxheat), but I'm such a scaredy cat when it comes to sending him.

The Halloween NF I've been meaning to do for years. I love horror and so putting this thing together I know is going to be a tonne of fun. I'm kind of nervous regarding the music video of one of the songs I want to place there, as it may leave people emotionally scarred and put them off me for life.

I haven't done an NF in absolutely ages, and before my last one I'd slowed down on them. I was doing too many. I've had a nice break from them now though, so I hope people might enjoy the two or three I've got coming up before the end of the year. Haven't you got an NF planned for soon too, Flo?

Oh gosh, yes! Judee Sill was actually the first artist I thought of when I read about the Icon NF. "The Kiss" is still one of the most beautiful and bittersweet gems of WV history and I guess she had some more masterpieces up her sleeves. Please mesmerize me again! I also hope you will include Mikal Cronin again. He has many fanboys here in the forum xheat

The scary videos for your Halloween NFs shouldnt be a big deal for me. Ive watched to much horror movies and moreover cruel and bloody gore videos, I am pretty much apathetic about the visual display of horror and stuff like that. There are a few expections... if there are for example big hairy spiders in the video, please dont count on me.

And yes, I will have a couple of NFs soon. I plan a Post-Rock National Final for WV 114 and moreover a one-band-NF for WV 117 starring a band you know and appreciate :) I really need your participation in those National Finals since I can't think of many people who would vote in a NF full of 7 minutes rock songs without chorus and lyrics and slowly developing and repitive sound patterns (Thats possibly what my WV 114 NF will be like)... xthink

Re: Pacific States - WV111 ☂ The Silent Comedy - All Saints Day

I decided on my entry for this edition. From edging towards something piano based and soothing (my mood is kind of there I guess), what I eventually decided on is a song that I’m hopeful some of you will enjoy. It’s by a girl who released her debut record back in 2017. I recall I found her when writing “Elliott Smith” into the Google news search. She’s obsessed with the late balladeer, and it shows quite a bit in her writing. I very rarely opt to send an entry as a live performance but in this case there’s a live version of this song that’s spellbinding in a could hear a pin drop kind of way. It turns the song into a duet as well, with my blonde lady being joined by a fellow musician who sings the second verse (this man will fit right in with the other hairy gentlemen filling the history section at the top of my greenroomxheat), along with his sister accompanying them on piano. It’s such a beautiful song and performance, but also very emotional and difficult, lyrically speaking. I’m anxious for you to hear it. I’ll have to send something super hot and outrageous the following edition to balance out the two emotional moments I’m having in a row now.

Oh oh oh and the music video just released for the song I shared with you when I last got the chance to host. I think this Sadistik song is becoming quite possibly my favourite piece of music ever. Haven’t been able to stop myself from religiously listening to it for months now. Thought I’d share this here just... because.. why not? BEHOLD.

Re: Pacific States - WV112 ☂ Phoebe Bridgers + Noah & Abby Gundersen - Killer

aXoqHix.png

oQC5kh8.png

Sometimes I think I'm a killer
Scared you in your house
I even scared myself by talking
About Dahmer on your couch

But I can't sleep next to a body
Even harmless in death
Plus I'm pretty sure I'd miss you
And faking sleep to count your breath

Can the killer in me
Tame the fire in you?
Is there nothing left to do for us?
I am sick of the chase
But I'm hungry for blood
And there's nothing I can do

But when I'm sick and tired
And when my mind is barely there
When a machine keeps me alive
And I'm losing all my hair

I hope you kiss my rotten head
And pull the plug
Know that I've burned every playlist
And I've given all my love

Can the killer in me
Tame the fire in you?
I know there's something waiting for us
I am sick of the chase
But I'm stupid in love
And there's nothing I can do
And there's nothing I can do

The track I'm sharing with you this edition is real soft and quiet. It's called Killer, and it's by a young Californian artist called Phoebe Bridgers. Back at the end of 2017 she released her first album, Stranger In The Alps, a sensitive collection of indie folk songs.

On this live version of Killer, Phoebe is joined by Washington native, Noah Gundersen, and his sister, Abby Gundersen, who plays piano.

I found it too on Spotify a few weeks ago! It's very relaxing and beautiful xheart I had Phoebe on my list as well, with her song "Motion Sickness"
I hope this will do very good! :D What did people say about it at LL?

Oooo thanksxheat Motion Sickness is good too (you should totally send it one day). I heard Killer last year and jotted Phoebe's name down, but for some reason didn't check her out properly until very recently. I love Would You Rather and her cover of the Mark Kozelek song, You Missed My Heart. The whole album is beautiful actually, but Killer is my favourite still. That second verse is devastating, yet the whole thing is still somehow so strangely comforting and warm.

It went down pretty ok at the LL (a few people seemed to enjoy it), though it was a really strong semi overall.

I'm so pleased with this top 5 finish for Phoebe and Noah. A super nice result for something so soft and understated. I'm happy that people had room for it in what was a very strong final.

The best part of this for me has actually been discovering Noah Gundersen. I've been listening to his solo stuff recently and I've found myself falling in love a little bit with his voice and songwriting. I hope one day to share him with you again but with one of his own songs.

Anyway, thank you very much for the supportxheart

As for the next edition? Once again I've got no concrete plans. With Eulaliya hosting though I feel like going for something that's a bit special or eccentric. Perhaps now actually would be a nice time for King Tuff, but I wanted to do a little NF for him, and I don't know if I've got the time or frame of mind for that right now. I guess I'll think of something. I'll try to make sure my entry isn't a wallower at least, as I've had a couple of sad songs in a row now. Maybe some garage rock or something with a psychedelic edge to it... or if Samantha Mumba would just damn release her fabulous new music already

Re: Pacific States - WV113 ☂ Starcrawler - Let Her Be

Do09la2.png

Starcrawler are a rock & roll band from LA. The group consists of the crazy 6'3 Arrow de Wilde on lead vocals, Henri Cash on guitar and vocals, Tim Franco on bass and the long haired Austin Smith on drums.

The scuzzy glam of Let Her Be is taken from Starcrawler's 2017 self titled debut record. It's a tonne of fun to listen to with many great songs, but Let Her Be is for sure my favourite, with its stupidly catchy hooks and ferocious solo, + we cannot ignore that seizurelicious music video. Mmmm delicious. The band are set to follow this record up with their sophomore release, Devour You, coming this October the 11th.

Front woman Arrow de Wilde is one heck of a loopy performer, and comes with an interesting family history. Her father is former Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti drummer, Aaron Sperske (he also has played for Father John Misty among others), and Arrow's mother is the photographer and video director, Autumn de Wilde. She has photographed cd covers for many artists, of most interest to me certainly being Elliott Smith's iconic Figure 8 album. The mural on the cover later became a memorial to Elliott after his death that people visit still to this day. I think it would be hard to find a more blessed baby than Arrow. Such pedigree.

Hope you enjoy these guys, and remember to don't ever stop yourself from rocking and a rolling!

And I hope you’re all ready to burn in hell........ for my upcoming Halloween NF. Yes, it’s almost here. I’m approaching the final stages of planning it, and you can expect the show to go up halfway through the next edition. I’m having second thoughts over the direction the lineup seems to be heading in (essentially a train crashing into Satan’s pond). I’m looking for one or two devilishly slick pop treats to balance things out but I’m struggling. We’re good to go though with dirty rock & roll and campy stuff. Also, there’s a music video in the selection I think I’m genuinely going to have to warn people in advance about as it may upset some.

For WV114 I’m edging towards sending a song that’s a bit hard to categorise, but my Dessa entry I guess would be the closest comparison point, although the piece I’m considering feels bigger in scope and more alive. Think along the lines of a really lush piece of music with R&B elements but that isn’t held down by any labels. My choice is subject to change though as I’m still waiting on new stuff from a couple of dear favourites of mine that are just being absolute slowpokes with their promised releases.

Re: Pacific States - WV114 ☂ Kelsey Lu - Due West

KhRLAKJ.png

Kelsey Lu is a singer-songwriter originally from Charlotte, North Carolina. She's classically trained but impossible to pigeonhole, with her music seemingly dancing to wherever it pleases. The verdantly beautiful Due West is taken from Kelsey's debut album, Blood that released this year to critical acclaim. I find it luscious, and yet there's a weirdly anthemic air about it too, with its inviting "California" hook and the hypnotic percussion.
