Calling all qualifiers calling all qualifiers !!!

If you desire a specific segment of your song to be shown in the recap instead of one I already used -> please send me a PM with starting and ending timestamp making sure it doesn't exceed 20 sec. xcheer

Especially in the viking rape and pillage circlejerk (you know, the one where you can't even read who's who on the pot schematic as dogmeat didn't space things out like Alevender does) it's silly how static and predictable the voting goes.
You know, it was a conscious decision. I used to make the graphs more evenly spaced out for better readability. But now I made a pots overhaul, in which I split each pot into a clusterfuck and its more widely spread out surroundings. I needed to show these rape and pillage circlejerks to illustrate the reasoning behind this change. If you have trouble reading some names, there's a list underneath.

I mean I can collect stats and show that stuff, but I don't feel like it
No, you can't. To collect such stats you would have to first identify friendships, quantify them and control for other factors. And you'd work on a very limited amount of data. You're making claims you know you can't prove. And those unproven claims might turn people off NSC. Idk, maybe it's just your crazy idea how to get to the main roster quicker...

I am actually quite shocked by Hypjø's result because I was expecting a bottom 3 placement in the semi. Seeing we have collected 54 points is more than enough - especially for such an unconventional entry. Overall, I am so glad to have shared one of my favorite SOPHIE tracks in her memory. She really meant a lot to me.

Oh and thank you for the innovative show Veronika! :)

I'm on the waiting list and it's fucking slavery.
there is nothing outrageous being said.

Mhm ok. I mean you raise a valid point that people have some level of bias (conscious or unconscious) towards nations they are familiar/friendly with, but you didn't need to be such an edgelord about it. And honestly, I don't think it's conscious most of the time.

Regarding the waiting list, you can be a dick about old members, it's your choice. But don't be surprised when people react badly to that. And speaking of rules, you should maybe pay a bit more attention to the general board rules ;) We try to be relaxed about this stuff, but some of what you are saying could definitely be interpreted as an infraction of multiple of those rules.

Having had a closer look at what qualified and what didn't... that was really rough.

Especially rough is losing my 12 in semi 2, Hypjø, with a really lovely and touching tribute to an artist I've long admired and dearly miss (with one of her best songs, no less, in a repertoire that includes many amazing songs). This final won't quite feel right without you. :(

I absolutely loved semi 2, so every single one of those losses (::ugl::noi::ous::taa::pyr::red::riy) hurts a lot. :( I also really don't understand how ::aim didn't make it with such a pretty song, at first listen it sounded like a PQer or even possible winner to me... sad.

Don’t be fucking stupid man, all the voting is tracked, there is pretty massive amounts of data. Control for various factors? I don’t need to show some sigma 3 result or whatever, it’s not a scientific enquiry. Just showing the pattern holds with some level of plausibility would be more than satisfactory to support an argument. Quantify friendships mfw. Daft. Could do a check to see if pattern is stronger or weaker with those who have on average higher voting similarities though.

Well I always figure if I am to step on some toes I might as well do it properly. I'm not necessarily a dick about old members, but I mean it doesn't take much to skim some old topics and see their xenophobic closed-mindedness and elitism on display. You know what I mean. Being a right cunt vis-a-vis such opinions is a perfectly qualified position I would argue. They don't like my attitude? Fine. I don't like spending 2-3 hours a month having to vote for the sheer vanity of some wasters. Should also be fine.

I have seen you written about this "Friend-voting" before and my question is: What do you suggest as solution to this "problem"?

Or wait..don't answer right now! I think you should take a breather and relax for a bit, cause if you answer straight away, you will just continue saying a lot of bad words and curse at us. You just snapped back at one of the mods, who is working to keep the forum a place where people not being attacked for saying how they think. I am afraid that you probably have past some kind of line already, but see this as your last chance before the moderators on this forum might make decisions they don't want to make in the first place. And then, your opinion about a contest that you still haven't joined, will matter even less to about...well nothing. So have a break now, don't answer right now, come back tomorrow and try to explain things as calmly as possible what you think. You are fine to have this opinion, but I suggest that you bring some kind of solution or proof that it is a big problem. Because we don't see it.

@Uto Has it occurred to you that maybe people become friends based on their similar taste in music? I didn't know anyone in this contest before I joined, and after 12 years in NSC, there are still many I don't know at all. But I have also gotten some good friends here, because we share the same taste in music. But do I let that interfere with my votes? No. Moisantia and Tanoiro still get 0's from me if I'm not a big fan of their entries, it happens. It's just that they rarely send songs I dislike.

I find it quite hilarious that you think I am unable to answer such a question without taking a breather. I have already given the answer to this. It would help if some of the jaded folk would quit NSC so it can be revitalized with people who have less alliances and require more discipline from the contest itself. Beyond that it's a matter of conscious voting. If a new country enters, be mindful that you are prone to underrating it compared to others you might like for reasons beyond the song itself. I never claimed the problem was big, quite the contrary, it's an accumulation of very small problems that turns it into a noticeable one. And well you can claim you don't see it, but I'm not buying that at all, the only group you speak for is those who actively deny the obvious because they like it like this.

Yes, this has occurred to me. It is not something that runs contrary to the point I made, it's an explanation of the mechanism that brings it about. The difference is that you seem to think that this does not interfere with your votes. That is just living in denial. That said, I have no idea about how you normally vote, but given your protest I would probably assume that in your case the effect then is quite small and as such you should not feel like any of the things I said were aimed at you in any specific way. This is up to any particular individual to decide. Only call I make is for people to be conscious about the causes and effects of underrating newer players.

I'm sorry Uto, but if you haven't even voted, then you have no authority on what songs should/should not qualify. You can't claim everyone is voting for their friends when you have no idea what the songs even were.

It's clear you're not enjoying NSC (or any other contest on this forum) and I'm sorry and I apologise if anyone here has personally not made you feel valued or welcome, but your attitude in this thread is disgraceful and if you had any valid points to make, your aggression towards the community has nullified them. If you have valid concerns that people are cheating, please contact the mods/admins to discuss in private rather than making a fool of yourself on the forum. If you are genuinely not enjoying your time in NSC and think the WL is a form of slavery, then please consider your position on it so that people who are having fun here can continue doing so.

I'm sorry doctormalisimo, but if you have voted, then you have no authority on what songs should/should not qualify. You can't claim anything when it is clear that you have proven biases on the songs. See, I can do fallacies too.

I enjoy the vast majority of contests I have entered. If I wasn't I wouldn't be in them at all, now would I? People have not made me feel unvalued or unwelcome either. I have not claimed any of that. I don't know what this posturing is about. Any 'aggression' does not nullify any points, that's just another transparent fallacy. I have not said people are cheating, quite the contrary, I've claimed it was normal behavior everyone does. So that's just misrepresenting my statements made in this topic which is a shitty thing to do really.

And yes well the WL members having to vote for NSC I have said is taking me time for no other reason than the vanity of NSC which really does suck and I am not the first to say so nor am I the last. If such an opinion according to you interferes with peoples enjoyment of NSC (how exactly?) well then change the bloody rule, because my opinion is not the issue. I still always vote in NSC because I want to be in NSC (because I do expect to enjoy it, contrary to what you seem to think) and because WLSC is awesome as is, but I've seen some others leave because of it though and it just sucks. Do you understand this? That I have made some friends in WLSC that I never see anymore because of these rules?

Given that you call for censoring in this topic on this stuff and I actually agree as this is clearly off topic, this will be the last post I make on it and I will be silent henceforth.
