Tumblr, mostly.
It's good that I listened before going to bed yesterday because now I have time to do something productive instead, as soon as this post goes up.

So yeah, this wasn't good. I'm not even sure whether I have a favourite? I think it may be the worst NF of the season so far, because *even IN* Spain and Iceland there are a few (well one) song that I could see myself stan.

In Norway though, um....

Bobbysocks are singing about putting fifty candles on the party cake for the many years of happiness (but less good than Zovi),
WigWam's song is weirdly mixed, generic and I can't make out what they're singing at certain junctures (walking on raisins?),
Ladybug has a fun, catchy (if dated chorus) but the verses are overproduced nothing,
Sondrey has okay (if overproduced) verses and then a nothingburger instrumental chorus,
Nora Jabri is -as my friend matthew pointed out to me- Amambanda level,
Tone Damli is -as my friend andré pointed out to me- really just a slightly more contemporaneous Party Voice,
Kyle Alessandro, please no,
LLL is like if you put MAID and Dolly Style into a blender - it sounds like damdiggida and equally diggity damn'ed dogshit,
Nataleen is the actual worst - like barely legally distinct from King of Queen but then her chorus highlights THE SAME WORDS as Run to the Hillz did - like it was ordered in a Chinese sweat shop. Whoever likes this is in an abuse relaitonship with their lack of self-esteem.

if AGNETE was an NQ, then whatever the winner of this garbage is should be an NQ also. Absolute dogshit.

Listening to the songs in full right now but I'm getting the impression Norway will be having a rough time in May. I feel like there are other countries that have performed poorly in previous years that are upping their game this year so I could easily see Norway not making the cut this year with these songs.

Edit: Vagabond isn't bad but I'm not sure how competitive it'll be.

Okay, after we got full entries I can finally listen to them and rank all:

1. Bobbysocks - "Joyful" 10/10 - Love xheart this is such a bless, what a beautiful journey to 80s 🙌💫 I'd die to have these LEGENDS performing and competing for Norway in Basel

2. Tone Damli - "Last Song" 10/10 - I never ever expected I will love Tone's entry so much, especially not after the first listening.. This is so schlagerish, so nordic catchy, the key change is MF golden era style... ⭐🤩😎 she is generally a solid performer and good singer, so I hope for good..

3. LLL - "Parasite" 10/10 - damn, this is a piece of cool trash 😛🥳 it sounds sassy and I hope the performance will be suitable..

4. Sondrey - "Vagabond" 10/10 - I really enjoy the studio version of this, this is so German radio friendly actually, but who cares.. And he's so cute... 😌

5. Ladybug - "Hot as Hell in Paradise" 9/10 - this can be really good actually, also a bit schlagerish, I miss the final "Ooomph" maybe, but we will see..

6. Wig Wam - "Human Fire" 5/10 - middle of the road, nth special, sounds a bit "tired"..

7. Nataleen - "The Game" 4/10 - okay, no, I didn't like Alessandra, not a fan of this one either, it has some catchy, anthemic and epic moments, but generally NO!

8. Nora Jabri - "Sulale" 4/10 - meeh, do not feel this one either, Im not a fan of the vocal and this repetitive words don't help..

9. Kyle Alessandro - "Lighter" 1/10 -uh this is the only horror for me in this bunch, I really hope I wont be that "lucky" 😛 to get this mess as 🇳🇴 representative.. 🤭 This is so not for me.. I still remember how I had Tooji and Norway last or almost last back than..

Oh boy, what can I say without sounding too mean??

I have a feeling the producers watched the recent preselections in :dk: a bit too long because basically everything here is super cheap and/or boring. My absolut lowlights here are Bobbysocks (super dated and cringe, more suited for the 80th birthday of aunt Ingvild) and Wig Wam (unpleasant garage rock). The only song I kinda "liked" as Nataleen and "The Game", even though it sounds like it was heavily "inspired" by "Queen of Kings". It is still not that special either for me.

No matter who goes to Basel will have a hard time to reach the final. All in all I have the feeling that people in charge were very much caught on the wrong feet by the last place of Gåte and don´t really care this year. Or is it just me?? xthink

01 Tone Damli – Last Song 10/10
02 Nataleen – The Game 9/10
03 Bobbysocks – Joyful 6/10
04 LLL – Parasite 5/10
05 Nora Jabri – Sulale 5/10
06 Kyle Alessandro – Lighter 4/10
07 Wig Wam – Human Fire 2/10
08 Sondrey – Vagabond 2/10
09 Ladybug – Hot as Hell in Paradise 1/10

This is the weakest MGP in years! Only Tone save this line-up, if she not win this time, i really hope Norway stuck in the semis, they deserved then. Nataleen is would be also good, great entry, love that. Bobbysocks are legends and the song is sweet and decent, but i think they have no chance at Eurovision. The rest can be burn down!

I'm trying to think if I want to add any of these to my playlist, I don't think I've ever had a national final where I haven't added at least one song to my playlist and now maybe 2 in 1 year (and despite what the Moldovan network seems to think, the other nf isn't theirs)

There's not a single song which is as good as "Semafoare" in this NF and the latter made :md: withdraw this year.

There are some glimpses of hope, e.g.

- Tone (if you like to stan for a #4 place in a Melodifestivalen heat 2),
- "The Game" by Nataleen which could be entertaining on stage (and also very trashy; a guilty pleasure) but the studio version (the mixing of her vocals at parts) sounds a bit amateurish/artsy-fartsy and also quite dated. It's anthemic at parts and quite catchy but it's missing all the great elements which made "Queen Of Kings" phenomenally brilliant;
- "Vagabond" which sounds fresh, radio-friendly, contemporary and chill but at the same time it gets repetitive very fast.
- LLL's verses are pure pop gold, absolutely incredible but the heavy amount of autotune and the chorus are unbearable.
- "Sulale" is a half-baked idea. It could have been huge but some tropes make me sigh and the chorus is already getting on my nerves.
- "Lighter" is polished, well-produced and probably Norway's best shot at getting a glimpse of qualifying but I feel like I've become to old to like these type of entries and it reminds me of TALI's "Fighter". I like the tiny medieval elements thrown into the mix, though.
- The handsome actore in Wig Wam's music video is a 20 out of 10. - The song, however, is going nowhere.
- Ladybug's entry has many very good elements but it's Lady GaGa-esque at parts, then schlagerish, then utterly outdated. I think they need to revamp the whole chorus to create a moment on stage/to mak eit work.

My ranking:
01 Kyle Alessandro – Lighter 7/10
02 Sondrey – Vagabond 5/10
03 Nataleen – The Game 5/10
04 Ladybug – Hot as Hell in Paradise 5/10
05 Tone Damli – Last Song 5/10
06 Wig Wam – Human Fire 5/10
07 Nora Jabri – Sulale 4/10
08 LLL – Parasite 3/10
09 Bobbysocks – Joyful 3/10

Depending on the competition/the semi, I think that Norway is ambitiously and confidently heading off to their first NQ since 2016.

Well, those were some songs I just listened to.

Hot as Hell in Paradise I actually quite enjoyed. It's not spectacular but scratches an itch I always have for campy Army of Lovers-esque fabulousness. I actually like the verses the most on it and the chorus is catchy.

Joyful is being slept on. I'm pretty sure this could charm its way into a Eurovision final. It's Bobbysocks on the 40th anniversary of their Eurovision win, with a very Abba-like song that's easily going to get the older generation picking up their phones. Honestly I'd say this is Norway's best shot. It's very catchy, smile-inducing and difficult to hate, unless you're miserable... and hey, I'm miserable and like it. We've got a winner here!

Parasite is also kind of cool and manages to sound quite big. Surprised this one isn't getting more attention. Perhaps it's the vocals?

As for the rest, well.. hmmm.... Last Song is my favourite Melodifestivalen schlager diva returns with some underwhelming mid I have to pretend to be excited for when it miraculously manages to go direct to the final to inevitably finish last energy. Very specific, I know but that's totally what this song feels like to me. I don't hate it but it's hard really to form much of an opinion. Similar for Human Fire. Again, that one is ok but you know the band can do better. Vagabond has nice verses and I like Sondrey's vocals but as Boris so perfectly put it, a nothingburger of a chorus.

To be honest, I feel Norway for quite a while now had already been on a downward slide with their national finals (although I'd go against the grain and say last year's grand final was great), so condensing it down to one show with a smaller selection of songs shouldn't be really a problem. The issue is the selection misses out on having standout songs. This lineup feels like they'd make up a regular heat in any other year.

Mmh... the older generation didn't really pick up their phones for that song either :(

"Joyful" would indeed be cute and charming, but i have no nostalgia for those times... 2000s, however. This is where I'm stuck In My Dreams :sneaky:

Joyful, joyful, in my heart
Joyful, even though it's dark
Joyful, joyful, in my song
Only joy can make me strong

My night is cold, the road is long
News is heavy, fear for only wrong
The storm is near, but I will stand my ground
And in the darkness I will try to cope
With every step, I'll carry with all my hope
I look around, where can love be found?

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

This brought me to tears!!
This is such a current situation here at the moment.. We will have PZE songs on Monday, while thousands of protesting ppl are in front of RTS! We have to "sing" , to feel that little joyment in our hearts, to feel slightly better while everything is quite dark! ⭐✊
I can't believe they served us this, so meaningful to us atm! Make my days flow smoother..

Bobbysocks are LEGENDS! ❤️💫

My top 9:

1-Wig Wam
2-Ladybug
3-Nataleen
4-Bobbysocks
5-Tone Damli
6-LLL
7-Nora Jabri
8-Kyle Alessandro
9-Sondrey

It's clearly a very weak year for Norway compared to recent years. However, there are 4 okay/good songs. Wig Wam really resonated with me, even though I know they have no chance of winning, so fingers crossed for Ladybug or Nataleen. I really hope they avoid Kyle Alessandro. Despite some interesting sounds in the background (it reminds me of medieval times), the rest is so unbearable for me. It might grow on me, but we'll see (I hope I won't have to hear it much more haha).

Fair but then that was a different time, and kind of schlager even (more akin to a Steps song). You also could have linked Charlotte's Take Me To Your Heaven which was sent a year prior to Don't Play That Song Again and won it. Both would be kind of irrelevant to gauging Joyful's chances today imo. Even if sending Bobbysocks again would be a risk, I think considering what else is on offer here (a whole lot of nothing pretty much), it would be worth it for the story alone. Eurovision winners returning on their 40 year anniversary would be quite iconic. Considering their choices, I'd rather see Norway go for a cute, memorable moment.
