He picked these entries, not the new HoD.
And DMGP is better than this tbh.
There is something weird about the withdrawals. When the news about Lavrans withdrawing broke, the HoD (Tarjei), said that it was "no drama around it" and "The MGP-stage is a big stage, and it demands a lot to participate in such a big contest. Our assignment is to make sure the artists are ready, and it is important to respect those who are not".
But Lavrans father/manager then said to the local newspaper in Fredrikstad that "It is not true what is written about it being a large stage. Lavrans thinks it has been a difficult decision, and wants to make a longer statement later."
I wonder what happened.
I wonder if there is ever an element of "Hey KEiiNO, sorry for taking your time, but I just call to say that the level this year is really low, and although I know that you didn't intend to participate, I would like you to consider it once more - I think your chances are quite good".All I can think of is how KEiiNO would’ve absolutely walked this. The nature of timing is cruel.
My hypothesis is that a certain political event, where one polity is systematically killing off another, may have lowered the motivation of certain Scandinavian artists enough that they no longer want to associate themselves with an insititution which welcomes the former. There is something weird about the withdrawals. I know. I am norwegian myself(Norway is vocally pro-Palestine, and so is Lavrans Svendsen.)
I don't think it just affects Lavrans btw. I think the pool NRK can normally fish from is much lower than normal because of the events of last year. Hence why this selection has 9 songs and not ten (almost as if they had no back-ups on hand, yes?), and include two former MGP winners from bygone days, a legally distinct Queen of Kings clone and a bunch of washed-up NF losers like Tone Damli and Kyle Alessandro that nobody in particular enjoys listening to.I know. I am norwegian myselfI suppose we just have to wait and see for his statement about it.
Didn't Tarjei Strøm, the new musical director, pick the entries?
Stig Karlsen stepped down as the head of delegation![]()
Yeah I think I actually saw them saying somewhere that it had been difficult this time around to get people in, but I dont remember actually where I read or heard it so this might be inaccurate. The only one I know for 100% who submitted songs but was not let in was Skrellex and it seems he really wants to be in it. And of course not having semis has of course made the pool less, so we have in general less options this time around.I don't think it just affects Lavrans btw. If what you are eluding to is true we won't be seeing him anytime soon and honestly good riddance. NMGP might be at a fork in the road. There is something weird about the withdrawals.
