Hello all. I've just found out that there's a song that I didn't know I could send from London that I can. Would probably be my biggest risk ever at WV if I sent it. It'd also be my first foray into what's sometimes inaccurately called "classical music" & what's sometimes pretentiously called "art music." When I first heard it it reduced me to a puddle and still does every time I listen to it. Thus, I may end up calling off my NF for now and sending it internally - stay tuned, pals.

I never left a comment to say what an entry this is, and a song such as this one here really deserves some words.

This is pretty much the crème de la crème of golden oldies. Forever timeless and in the hearts of many. I must have watched The Wizard of Oz a million times as a child. I believe it was the first film my 90 year old grandmother saw at the cinema. It's always been a part of my life, and gives me a huge nostalgia punch whenever I hear the music from it.

I listened just now several times to her live performance of "Over The Rainbow" from Carnegie Hall. I was mega obsessed with Rufus Wainwright about 7 years ago and he recreated her iconic and legendary Carnegie set in tribute to his idol and icon. His version of "Over The Rainbow" is one of my favourite covers, and after I purchased his "Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall" on cd, I purchased the original "Judy At Carnegie Hall". The only Judy Garland album I own on cd, but I think an essential.

It makes me super emotional how you've sent this song. It shows that WorldVision is not just about sending hidden gems or new discoveries, but can just remind us how special something is, what it means to people, and you've done exactly that this edition Calvin. Thank you for reminding me how beautiful this song is. It will remain forever poignant in my heart.

Alright, everyone. Just about since I put the NF up, I've had a very quiet pit in my stomach that maybe the time is right for one of the four songs and that I just should've gone for it internally. Well, over the last few days, that pit has gotten louder and louder, so I think it's probably time to cancel the NF & fulfill my dream to send one of the four, something I've wanted to send since just about the moment I joined. This one is a biggie for me. I've been dreaming of sending it pretty much since I joined and came close a few times. I first heard the song as part of a film in my junior year (age 16) Spanish class called Cría cuervos, one of the first films made in Spain after Franco. Not actually really sure how much I like the film, but this song, appearing as a kind of leitmotif throughout, really struck me. The day we saw it in class, I went home to find the chords to the song and started working around with it at the piano. Since, it kind of followed me around thanks to its incredibly dolorous lyrics, funk-like instrumentation, and haunting vocal performance courtesy of Jeanette.

Jeanette herself has led quite the life, born in London and growing up in several parts of the US. She then joined a Spanish folk group, Pic-Nic, and moved to Vienna with her husband after the band split up, retiring temporarily from music. However, she was coaxed by her label to return to Spain, reaching success in 1976 after this song was used in the film. She remained a prominent figure in Spanish music even after fading from the commercial scene in the mid-80s. Hope y'all enjoy this entry from her!
